Car heating

I went on holiday for a week and to my knowledge the heating in the car was ok, however when I came home I started the car up and let it run for about 30mins before I dove a 60mile journey.during that trip I realised that I had very little heat coming from the vents. It varies when the car is stationary and when I am on the motorway (although even at its hottest it isnt as hot as it used to be).The car its self isnt overheating or anything and the water levels are fine. I was kinda thinking the switch or the heating element, any sugestions?
