hi guys

i dont know if this is in the right bit of the forum

after reading some posts about some zoners buying cars that are just mot`d (and not seeing any fail slips if it failed first time) then getting home to realise there is lots work needed to keep the thing roadworthy
i thought i would post this

http://www.motinfo.gov.uk/html/home.html

some of you may be aware of it, some of you not
you can check the history of your cars mot test since computerisation came in 2000something

my little 316 had 1 fail on tyre and 1 advisory on wheel bearing

all you need is the reg and v5 number (its also on the green slip you get when youve bought a car)

at least if you check it you will know what else needs doing
even if the car is good its nice to know of any problems that may be on there way
i used it to check a car i sold to a workmate, i told him about the defects but he still bought it off me knowing it was going to fail big style
the guy i sold it too was one of those big head twats (i still work with him)you know the ones
well he said it passed just needing a tyre!!!!!
it actually needed 3 tyres, both sills needed welding, headlight aim too low
ball joint knackered, rear brakes defective, exhaust holed, loose steering column the list was 2 a4 pages,
i printed it off the site and showed him he was talking crap,,,,
now he doesnt talk to me anymore

thought it might

its well handy ive been using it quite a lot for cars im thinking of buying
i just ask to see the v5 or mot cert then write down ref number if i think the ticket is suspect
then when i get home i check it out
if its ok i buy the car

I used it when I bought my Daily Diesel Audi A4 Turd.

Very useful as it only came with the current MOT which I bought on condition only - No history.

Thanks to that website I now have some previous MOT history :thumb:

Means its been in a front ender! Or some tosser was messing about with it and went off.

A pretensioner is an explosive item in the seatbelt which reels it back in if the car passes a certain amount of 'G.'
An accident basically.

I wonder if it once did...

Anyhow, considering that it doesn't have one now, I wouldn't worry about the pre tensioner.

Just don't crash it :D

At the bottom of the page it says

Change of details:
Make/Model: BMW / 325 I SPORT recorded at time of test on 15/09/2007

What does that mean?

I owned it on the previous years mot and haven't done any dvla business.

Its whatever the MOT tester has selected for the car on the screen. I presume he has options such as:

325i
325 se
325 sport.

Probably means that the tester noticed that it's a fake sport! If you bought this as a sport, I suggest you submit the VIN to zimmerbimmer1, and ask for the original spec sheet.

Mine is the same Brian. Over the past 3 years its been a 318i, 318is and now on my last MOT which I put it through he selected 318i. Its a proper iS on the vin.

Just an MOT human error. Lets be honest most people don't know a 325 sport from an m3 :o

Maybe, but the tester just might notice a difference between the V5 details (if he has it), and the details flagged up on the new MOT system's computer.
