Is part of the electric window system near the glovebox?

Need technical Q/A then you're in the right place

Hi,

My electric windows have half broken. Somtimes when you push the button (both sides) they don't move, but there's a high pitched electrical sounding whine/buzz that seems to be coming from in/around the glovebox somewhere.

The switches all seem to be connected fine and the windows moved nice a quickly before this started happening, so I don't think they're gunged up.

There's a relay in the left hand corner behind the glovebox that controls the supply to the windows/roof.
I've never known this relay to go faulty, but there's a first time for everything!
It's a five pin change over relay.
As a temporary check, pull out the relay and use a piece of wire to link together pins 30 and 87 of its base. This should make the windows work with the ignition on only.

Well, they're working again on their own now!

Next time they break, I'll give that a go.

Managed to get it to break again...the windows work fine when the ignition is on, they don't work when the ignition is off and the doors are open.

It's deffo related to that relay though (the light blue one on the far left?) 'cause it's that that's making the noise. I know it's the realy making the noise 'cause it vibrates too!
