idle problem please help

hello all.

my 1988 325i has a problem with the idle.
on tick over its surging up and down not loads.

ive replaced spark plugs,dizzy cap,rotor arm,coil,exhaust manifold gasket
i have a spare 173 ecu ive swaped and still the same.

any ideas are appreciated.

alot of people have a rough idle. Ultrasonic cleaning of injectros is the way forward.

so igniton is running well then

Air leaks!

Spray some carb cleaner around the inlet manifold withthe engine running, any change in note will be heard via a dip in the engine.

Spray around the rocker cover; also check the condition of the pipe going from the rocker cover to the TB; is it blocked clean and tear free?

give the TB a good clean with some CARB cleaner after taking of the rubber boot to the TB, and also give the ICV a good clean

Report back after these and we shall go from there

forgot to mention i have already cleaned the icv.
will try the others.
