I've never known one fail! You don't have a water leak onto it, do you?tourer-dan wrote:All sounds too common!!!! I'm on my 3rd relay.........It seems to eat them up.

No it's all nice and dry. Wasn't working at all when I bought the car, replaced, lasted about 6 months then that 'stuck on'. Current one's been in over a year- no probs touch wood. Dealer wanted around £60 IIRC, got a second hand one for under a tenner. I thought it was common!

It's probably a simple repair, like build up on a relay contact, or a simple cracked solder joint, if you open it up!

Are you sure you've not replaced the lamp filament check module by mistake?
There's a microswitch mounted inside the gearbox cover of the wiper motor that could conceivably cause something like this, but it's unlikely.

There is another relay associated with the rear wash wipe; K9, in the fusebox, but it's of no relevance to this problem, since all it does is apply power to the circuit when the ignition is switched on.
the fault could be caused by corrosion in the switch on the dash, but you say it still happens with the switch removed, so that just leaves the microswitch in the motor, or you've fitted another dud 'relay'.

ok cheers ill try and obtain another relay and see what happens i took the car for a run and put my hand on the relays too see if any where hot ...2 were so i changed them but its still the same ....whether relevant this seems to not happen on initial starting but as the cars is running for a while it starts to happen untill it is almost on all the time ...i have now disconnected the wiring to stop it
is there any permanent live to the motor or anything that could be shorting out ie near the hinge where it moves as the hatch is opened

No permanent live to the motor - it's fed a switched live on the black/yellow from the 'relay'. The black/red wire is the one from the park microswitch, which connects it to earth. TBH, I don't know if it has to be earthed for the motor to run or for the motor to park.
My god I never expect to hear those words, the very fabric of the zone is going to start tearing an interdimensional rift into space and time...Brianmoooore wrote:TBH, I don't know if it......

OK, in order to save the universe, I've just checked on a spare motor!! The micro switch is open circuit in the parked position.

I have the same problem. Wiper will only stop if I remove the Relay or Fuse.
The switch is fine. The Relay looks pristine and and dry.
The microswitch route, would that mean replacing the whole motor?

It's a standard miniature microswitch, and I managed to replace one once.Meister_Munch wrote:I have the same problem. Wiper will only stop if I remove the Relay or Fuse.

'Relay' is still your most likely suspect, though.
There's been one or two things Brian has been caught on lately, lol.
Like those areials that go up and down depending on you having the CD or tuner on
I would have thought a likely problem for this would have been the switch being stuck for turning on the wiper when in reverse but as you said, unlikely...

Where does one find this switch and is it a replaceable part?Brianmoooore wrote:It's a standard miniature microswitch, and I managed to replace one once.Meister_Munch wrote:I have the same problem. Wiper will only stop if I remove the Relay or Fuse.

Switch I used was 'in stock' , but www.cpc.co.uk will probably have a suitable one. It's not a part that the manufacturers intended to be replaced.
It was a while ago that I did it, and can't remember the full details.
Complete motors come up on ebay fairly often. I bought one for £0.99 a few weeks ago!

Just realised you meant 'where can I find the switch on the motor'!
On the cover for the large gearwheel. The one with two wires and exposed solder joints. Disconnect the brown wire to test it. Motor should work normally, but not park.
