stirring soup gear stick!!!

hi my gear stick has been crap for a while and i think its time i got it sorted. it changes gear fine but there is no spring in it at all. it is like stirring soup if you just sit there and move it about. what needs to be done and is it a big job?? thanx

follow the above link, you need to change the bits in the diagram that say "recondition bits" (yellow box)
