Maybe a bit daft but here goes....

My 91 325iS Auto has a long pipe next to the bulkhead which I beieve is the auto box dipstick but it has a black plastic round cap on it.

To get to dip the gearbox oil & check colour, condition etc, how the hell do I get the dipstick out? I have tried unscrewing this cap half a dozen turns (anti clock) but nothing seems to be giving. Am I on the right track here or what?
Thanks, Neil.

Neil Yup your in the right place, just give it a good tug and it will come up. Gentle persuasion may be the answer by levering it upwards.

Great, thanks for the advice, it got me sorted. I knew I was in the right place but I had not come across this type of retaining device, simple really if I had examined the "pointer" on top of the cap.
Thanks again.
