I have a 320i touring with no central locking. I have changed the big relay down in the footwell, but no joy.

What is the checklist for checking central locking electrics. Besides the fuse what other relays are there or other points of failure?

cheers

Have looked at this thread. http://www.e30zone.net/modules.php?name ... c&start=25

Will try red/black mod and report back

Current status - can open drivers door with key, can open tailgate also, can open pass door in a weird way with key and pulling doorhandle simultaneously

Just back in from the car . . . these red/black wires going into the door socket - is one slightly thinner than the other? Just wondered before I start cutting

it's a 1989 320i touring

Stop press: had a fiddle with the door loom socket. Didn't manage to pull it out or anything but . . . the CL now works. Must be corroded in there

Wow you work quickly :)

If the rubber boot over the socket doesn't seal properly, moisture can get in and wreak havoc. Pull the plug apart and keep your fingers crossed!

Do the red black wire mod anyway, they both go ino the socket and should be the exact same size. It is essentially the same piece of wire.

By removing the power from the door post socket you will limit any further corrosion considerably.

you dont need to take the door plug out to do the red'black wire mod, just join the wire up.

Hmmm, I'm troubled by the fact that my red n black wires don't seem to be the same size
