just put new rack (second hand) into 316i m40 and have no power steering,is my pump knackered as it was run as good as dry for 6 months??

If the pump has run dry for six minutes it will be knackered!
The usual way is to remove the belt, if you disable the power steering.

ok then that solves that then,so new pump should see it working
