Hey Guys,

I recently took ownership of a 2003 E46 330ci, which had a bit of crash damage but nothing affecting the engine. I am planning on replacing the M40 1.8 lump in my E30 with the engine.

I am slowly building up all of the parts I need, however one thing I want to get sorted before removing the engine from the E46 is the EWS delete. I want to be certain the EWS delete works and the engine runs before removing it. I assume once the EWS has been deleted from the ECU, if I unplug EWS unit in the E46 and the engine still starts and runs then success? Or is there anything else I should be considering?

Secondly, has anyone used Digital tuning solutions for this? They offer a EWS delete service for £65 which seems fairly reasonable. They also offer a remap for £99 (which includes EWS delete) which can also account for cat removal and free flowing exhaust. Is this worth doing considering how it will be installed in the E30?

Thanks Guys.

You don't need to unplug anything, once the ecu is flashed it will be out of sync with the EWS and will not start unless the EWS is off.

For what it costs I would get a spare MS43 box and flash that and keep the original for the time being. That will not satrt the car unless correctly flashed.

You can do it all yourself if you are handy with a computer but if not then for what they charge probably not worth the bother. Never used them but DTS as good as any

Good idea to keep the E46 running until you get the ecu flashed

Thanks flybynite.

When I said to unplug the ews, that was more to check that the engine should run correctly in the e30 when there is no ews module present.

Yeah, that should work, I'm pretty sure that's what I did to check that my ews delete had worked.

I did mine myself, all you need is a laptop, a cable and a bit of time to research how to do it, although £65 sounds pretty reasonable to be honest as it took me a few hours to work out how to do it it, and checking to make sure I wasn't going to brick the ECU.
