Hi All,

I am gathering parts for an M54 swap. I am just doing some research one engine mounts and have found everywhere reccomends the mounts from the E28 M5/535i.

On checking RealOEM, i seem to find different part numbers for the different models, and none of them seem to be readily available in the UK. Is anyone able to confirm which part number is best to use and where they were able to source them from?

It seems to be the same for all M50/52 swaps etc so im sure plenty of people have found mounts to suit.

Thanks.

The mounts I used were listed as for: E28 525i, 528i, 535i and M535i. I got them from eBay. I think the part number is 11811128932.

There seem to be two types of mount, round ones and kind of hexagonal shape ones, Mine are the round ones.

Thanks Clarko,

I will have another look at what I can find, the ones that pop up on ebay seem to be very expensive!

Does anyone have any dimensions for the E34 M5 mount?

Mainly looking for
  • Distance between the mounting faces
  • Is there an angle between the mounting faces
  • Any offset between the studs
I won't be able to get a set of mounts before I want to trial fit the engine in the car so wanted to make up something temporary out of some wood or metal to help me install in the right place and start working on other bits around it.

Thanks,

Thank you Dan.

I assume these mounts are the same dimensions as the M5/535i mounts which are typically recommended? But I am assuming these are softer than the M5 ones?

Thanks,

Hi guys, looking for a bit more advice.

Went to put the M54 on the subframe last night and I couldn't get the mounts to line up.

I had the rubber mounts in the inner holes on the subframe. Should these be fitted to the outer holes, ie the ovalised holes? I've done some research but not found anything conclusive yet. I'm not near the car at the moment so can't just check quickly but I'd like to know if I need anything different before I'm next working on the car.

Thanks guys

Thanks Dan, was worried I had the wrong arms or mounts! Glad I was just installing them wrong, hopefully it'll fit right in next time I'm back working on the car

@miks15 I'm at the same crossroads as yourself but not that advanced, just at the planning stage.

I have a 05 330ci complete donor. Can you confirm what arms and mounts you ended up using for the final drop?

Thanks πŸ‘πŸΌ

E36 6 cylinder arms and the above mounts work on M52tu and M54 engines

Yes, I have used the E36 arms.

However when swapping them out on my engine, I noticed the arms looked very similar to the E46 ones that I was taking off. They use different holes on the block, (the E46 ones has a wider base) but it looks like it puts the mount in the same position. I was in a bit of a rush when I was swapping them out so I didn't get a chance to measure it all to confirm, but I think the E46 mounts would also work. I'll be working on the car again next weekend and I am hoping to measure these up properly to check as not 100% at the moment.

Thanks lads for the quick responses πŸ‘πŸΌ

@Dan, I was trying to source the arms and mounts new from online parts stores but can't find any - Is eBay the best bet, there are some new mounts as you shared earlier but arms are all used. Was hoping to get new ones so the bay is nice and clean as much as possible 😁 And also, is eBay the best bet for the M50 oil pan and pickup?

@miks, that'll be interesting to find out about the E46 M54 arms, I'll be surprised as someone have to have checked that πŸ˜…

Thanks again πŸ‘πŸΌπŸ‘πŸΌ

Found these as an aftermarket new part. Will check with local BMW to check if they're still available and how expensive vs these.

More than likely will go with these unless I find a dirt cheap used set.

Have to drill in the holes though πŸ˜”

Has anyone else used these?

Over 200 euros plus the VAT and handling charges when they land here, you are better off finding an E36 breaker on facebook or similar and buying some used arms, get them vapour blasted if you want them to look nice

Thanks Dan, makes sense - I'm fortunate enough to be in Ireland so EU stuff is better for me.

But unfortunate enough because don't have much choice with breakers and online merchants such as the UK.

But yeah, I'm still gonna try some BMW breakers here first before ordering that.

Sorry for the late response.

Yes, I was in touch with him - Definitely the right place to look for the classic BMW parts for us. The E36 arms turned out to be still expensive than the one I've shared earlier so I'll more likely get those. But definitely the used ones are easily half the price from the stealers.

1 thing that I am getting off them is an E38 728i sump with the pickup and dipstick. I was searching through forums and various build threads, someone in NL (build thread on r3v) used E38 728i sump and pickup - straight swap. I hadn't seen it being mentioned here so hopefully it works out for me. I'll confirm in due course and add to the main M54 thread here too.
