So i ran into a little trouble with the cabbie.. trouble being the driver side rear spring perch popping through the chassis rail
So as you do, pull it off the road, COMPLETELY strip the rear end to bare bones, order everything new, full brakes, shocks, springs, handbrake cable, flexi's, make new brake lines, fuel tank, fuel filler neck+pipe, rubber grommet that sits inside the fuel flap, the metal capping that covers the breather lines from tank (which is what caused the dram in the first place..) all bushes bolts, nuts, a divorce (obvs will be on the cards by the time I'm done) All the usual stuff
I want this to go back together in as much as a "as new" condition as possible. so most of the crap has been cut out and new metal welded back in, its surprising how mint the surrounding original metal is once i went at what seems to be seam seal with a grinder and cup brush. the issue was literally local to the spring perch, the rest of it looks like new!
which obvs has me thinking, once done, i want to coat it in what BMW did 30 years ago because damn is that good stuff! body repair shops say to use poly seal but im not convinced..
Does anyone know what the stuff is that BMW used back in the day? it has obvs been covered in shutz but ripping it back, it was like a cream coloured rubbery substance. I want to use similar stuff to protect it, plus it will have the bonus of hiding my awesome welding
