320i Convertible small restoration

Hi,

I'm having some work done to my Convertible for its 30th birthday.

It started with an oil leak...
I had a very bad oil leak from between engine and the gearbox, suspected worn crankshaft seal.
Because it is a big job I decided to take it to Jordan from the JCMotorsport in Alton to remove the engine and gearbox, replace the seal and everything else that needed ‘love’ . Car had over 150k on the clock and had engine as well as engine bay covered with oil and dirt

So it my look like not much has happened , but....
New crankshaft seal
New clutch kit
Skimmed fly wheel, because it was damaged with worn clutch plate
New sump gasket
New water pump
New timing belt
New spark plugs
New exhaust shield
New exhaust stud
Second hand thermostat housing
New viscous
As well as new disks and pads front, new ball joints and bushes front.

Next step rust!

Wheel arches had a bit of bubbling so I purchased repair panels
I could not find any for pre facelift convertible so I purchased pre facelift for a coupe thinking they are same, but not...

But Jordan said that he can made them fit, and he did.
But first rot removal...

Along with heavily uprated brakes and suspension I hope!
Favourite pastime, back in the day, for the modded Mini brigade, was to try and lure these things (and the Spitfires) into following us into cornners at speeds we knew they weren't going to get around them without extreme drama.

Bigger brakes wheels and stiffer suspension....
But still in a car with no abs, traction and very skinny body!
They are looking for 200+bhp
That’s more per tone than the current m3!!!

Great for cruising.
- how does the Z3 diff go with acceleration around town?

It suits my needs.
The car has never been quick, now is obviously slower, but it’s still a pleasure to drive around town. Just need to stay in second gear a bit longer if needed.
On a motorway it’s great. Even in the fast lane car feels comfortable and is not reviewing like crazy.
In essence it feels like a 6th gear.
No regrets
