Hi,
Does anybody know if pattern parts are worth buying or it is best to go with genuine parts?

I am after both wings and a front valance for a pre facelift convertible.

thanks for any input.

Convertible wings are longer at the bottom because the sills are deeper. A few online sellers claim theirs fit a convertible but I found they were unaware they are different. I used a pattern 2 door wing and fabricated the bottom section but I am fortunate enough to be the manager at a machine and fabrication shop so appreciate that isn't so easy for everyone. Having said that a local body shop should be able to sort it if you go down that route. Expect to do plenty of other adjustments too if you go pattern route, mine needed work where it meets the screen A post, all the holes on the top egde were a full hole out and I needed a very slight adjustment round the headlight and that wasn't even the cheapest wing available either. Used do come up on Ebay but I've yet to see one rot free at the bottom.

Be aware that BMW panels are also now pattern. I bought a tailgate for my touring from BMW a couple of years ago and the fit is shocking. It's about 5mm wider than the original and there were missing holes for trim clips etc that I had to drill myself.

thank you both for sharing this with me.
I have recently bought a pattern wheel arch repair panels and they did not fit at all. Luckily I have got a very skilled friend who managed to cut and weld them in place.
Looks like the best way is to find second hand genuine panels with no rust....

Thanks again for time and effort!
