Zaino indeed, Zaino AIO to start with, then 2 layers of Z2 and a final wipe down with Z8, it looks absolutley incredible, it looked great after just applying the AIO, the Z2 and Z8 just seemed to add more and more depth and a real wetness, it also made the paint look darker, it's a shame the weather was so crap yesterday some sunny outdoor shots would have been great.
It was a pleasure to do this yesterday.

yes i know at work we have a chart with the tinters numbers on so that we can swap ixell and standox tinters should we run short on one but
ixell lacquer comes from different manufacturers so im told
the older thicker hs lacquer comes from dupont and is all ways orange peally when paint it so im all the more impressed by simon13 s c2 paint work if thats the one used

no! but i've been at it this week between the rain, there has been alot of wheeling in and out of the garage in the evenings.

Lots of the trips to the dealer with part numbers. Trying to find little clips, nuts on the etk that are rusty or had get broken/mullered when removing. What takes 10 mins to remove takes 40 mins to get back in like the battery cable :x Lots of patience this week and but starting to make a dent in the refit.

It's just painfully slow but i'm getting very close to getting the loom back in :clin: I just need to pull it out of the large box it's sat in and re wrap the engine bay tape new plugs for it etc.

When the sun comes out i'll get the camera out and do a decent update

that loom is going to be a whole bundle of fun :?

can you get the original cloth loom tape from the dealers? PVC tape will look horrible and go nasty after a year or so.

I can get hold of it. I have just done mine with it. Incidently, some of the loom is wrapped in the PVC electrical type tape but most of it in the fabric type or flexible rubber tubing for some of the thicker sections.

i think the adhesive used on car loom pvc tape must be different to what bmw used, the normal pvc tape goes all horrible and slimy and unravels if left in an engine bay, would be a shame to mess it up on what will be a uber tidy car after it's done.

Actually Adam who painted the car told me to get some polish and wax on there to get it off to a good start in life and keep it 100% protected!

Been a while since the last report but here is what i've been doing lately, which has been trying to get the car ready for the loom to go back in

Image
Image
Battery cable from the boot to here back in, bonnet release cable also.

Soundeadening (sp) had to go in on the bulk head either side. I've had a bit of mare with this as some of it is NLA and i had misplaced the part which was NLA. So i've got one off a breaker luckily. Not the easiest part to find as to get it out properly involves the car loom out, pedal and brake linkage. So a pain in the arse really!

Image
Image
This is the offending piece! With the pedal box back in and brake linkage

Image
Image
Next was the soundeadening for the floorpan after the repairs. This involved a knife, head gun and burnt sticky fingers to get the shape right. I need to do the rear pan but it wasn't going to be a problem with the loom back in to do this. I know theres more than needed but i guessed it wouldn't hurt to have some less roadnoise coming in the cabin

Image
I'm ready to get the battery in also so i can power the loom up and check as much i can of the loom to see if it's all working like it was when it came out!

Image
new rubbing strips both sides and side repeaters on.

Image
Nice minty lights cleaned up great so saved a few quid here! lol new boot seal and rear light seals are also in. Number plate backing cleaned up nicely Demlot! it's his "old" one

Image
Back end is looking like it should nearly now! inspiring stuff for me!

Image
Loom in the box as it's been the past year :clin:

Image
On the floor trying to make sense of it all! i'm glad tomtomiS was on board helping with this. The good tip from oldskool about labelling the loom all up by the plugs came in here and will later

Image
loom going in

Image

It's in and jobs a goodun! Now i must confess whilst i was retro fitting cruise control to Barry's sport Tom fitted the loom in on his own. So a big big cheers for that!

Now trying to make sense of it all!

Image

After 3 or so hours of re taping, and sorting it out into how it should be running around the car.

Image
Getting the sunroof clobber back in place, this is leading to another tricky job of being ready for the headlining to go back in. Which will open lots more doors as i can get the glass all back in then! Sport map light mirror one of my fav options added in here too!

Image
Engine bay loom for lights,OBC etc

Image
I've started re taping and cleaning it all up

So thats where we are at!

it looks scary but once you establish what goes where its not so bad, key is labeling stuff up and having a good idea of whats what helps.
