not fan of water based, but C'est la vie and we wont get much of choice in the near future.

orion was fast, it got sold and engine transfered in to an XR3i ( mk3 escort ) in nimbus grey which still lives to this day so i'm told.

Nimbus grey, one of the rarer colours on the mk3 xr3i. Nice.

The 1600E (I know ALL about it) didn't have the appeal of the Ghia, and I can't even explain why.

When on earth is this fresh turd going to be excreted out of the arse of the bodyshop?

I wanna see it done!

A few more pics.

During to panel repairs to the car some of the underside of the car had new metal let in so new underseal was needed in these repaired areas along with any other area of original underseal that was flakey or looking like it needed attention. The original underseal is rubberised and is a durable protection. The underseal we used is light grey in colour and the original is beige but can be colour matched easily enough.

Image

Adam at work degreasing the engine bay before the along process of rubbing it all down properly for a coat of primer.

Image

All the repairs were given a coat of aerosol primer to keep any bare metal covered until the car was ready for paint prep, this was removed with thinners before a coat of high build primer was laid on the car.

Image

The car in high build primer and sprayed with a guide coat of black aerosol ready to block down.

in all honesty si, i've seen a lot of cars restored to this standard with this level of attention to detail (i'm a classic car man at heart), but never a E30! not discrediting anyone on here who has done similar of course but it's a breath of fresh air and a credit to the classic status that the E30 is rapidly acquiring.

outstanding work lads :D keep it up! it'll be pride of place at santa pod i'm sure (not long now...!)

Okay so I was about 100 yards from this car today while it was being painted and Barry wouldn't let on as to what the colour was or let me have a peek. I even spoke to Si this evening and he won't let on!

By the way Barry, sorry for the off topic, but I thoroughly enjoyed my trip to the Croydon massive today thank you very much 8)

Well before i reveal the colour, here is some of the prep work involved before the first coats are applied.

After the high build primer was blocked down with the first guide coat of black aerosol, a second guide coat was applied using a charcoal pad which is a fine dust for highlighting the finer imperfections.

After the second guide coat was bocked down.

The engine bay and boot area were to be painted before the rest of the shell so the car was masked up for these two areas to be wet on wet primed, painted and laquered.

The two areas wet on wet primed.

The shots of these painted areas will be posted with the shots of the finished car.
Here's the car being masked up ready to go back into the booth for the rest of the car to be painted.
When it was masked the sills, lower part of the front panel, the bottom of the rear quarters and the bottom of the rear panel had the factory textured stone chip reapplied to these areas before the priming began.

The filters were changed before the painting of the car.

The final panel wipe down.

Ready to go!
