not long it's in the bloody paintshop now but they haven't started on the car so a couple of weeks yet maybe who knows. Could be a touch longer :?

Problem is black is a very popular colour on an E30, but i must admit it's not my fav colour for a car.

I can tell you this, if it was white it would be getting a colour change 100%

BLUE! (or red, but I can't see you going for that) Shall I add a poll for ya?! I have confidence that people have taste, even on here...

Noo, you've not seen a white Alpina chromer with silver fat stripes! Best colour ever is Henna red with fat golds on a C1 2.3 with full Chrome.

If you did it blue, you you leave the spoiler black or code it? Black sills?

I did think about Brilliant red but it's a bit of an obvious choice. The thing about Alpina blue is that no regular E30 ever came with it. How many Alpina blue E30's are in the UK? 2 or 3 I'd hazard a guess.

Not Brilliant - got to be Henna or at a push, Zin' red. But blue'll still look great...

I once saw Zinnober red comically mispelt on Autotrader......

....Zanzibar red. :D So henceforth I call Zin Zanz.

But then again. Autotrader, that haven of comic misspelling, is worth reading for the spelling alone.

'Alpha Romero Spyder, Zanzibar red with Reacro seats and triptronic...."

blue boot spoiler colour coded and the sills would be covered by the alpina side skirts which would be matching blue

I think it's time for a poll, EVERYONE has to vote. All opinions welcome no matter what. It's Set to divide us up

oh sh!t, lets not worry about that for now! I've stuck a poll up so lets see. I need to vote :? I'll wait till my missus gets home as she has good taste with colours! So my vote will be hers, she will like that!

Can i have both? one car would be a lash up though as it's too expensive

Well, here we go. After a long delay with the logistics of getting Simons car into the bodyshop i'm glad to say that they have finaly made a start so i will be updating the progress made with each stage of the shell resto.

This nearside inner sill didn't look to bad but as with most rust when you start digging it usally needs a lot more new metal letting in than first thought.
These are a few pics of what it looked like before the cutting began.

Image

Image

This is how much had to be cut out, a section of the outer sill, innner sill, square lifting pad (aka jacking point which isn't a jacking point) and a small section of the floor pan where it meets the sill, the passenger foot well part of the floor pan needed a reapair as it had been pushed up previously by a jack or axel stand and the very bottom of the A pillar to bulkhead join. Not all of these parts were rotten but a couple of sections of metal had to be removed to repair other sections.

Image

Area part prepped for metal to be let in.

Image

Simon supplied a mint section from another car which gave enough metal from the relavent panels that make up that section that was needed to execute the repair. If new panels were used for this area then a bulk head section, A pillar, floor section, inner and outer sills would have been needed so doing it this way saves money and is a neater repair than just letting in sheet metal, the only draw back is the supplied section needs to be prepped by unpicking it all and cleaning it up ready to be welded in so takes time.

Here's a couple of the prepared parts, outer sill section and sqare lifting pad.

Section of inner sill welded in.

Outer sill section.

Outer sill has been welded in and braised as per factory at the outer sill to sill to A post join. This repair is metal fininsh and no filler was needed.

Bottom of A pillar.

Floor pan repair.

Image

The finnished repair first coated in zinc alloy paint then areosol primer ready for seam sealer.

Untill next time. :)

looks like its in good hands to me :thumb:

that must be the worst of the repairs done with then, remember simon sending me a photo of that when he first stripped it and i thought it looked like trouble. not too much trauma on the rest of the shell iirc

There's plenty more to come but that was probably the trickiest one to tackle.

This is too nice to be an E30 now, Simon - We will disown you :D

Well, I've just spent the last hour+ reading through all 20pages and have to say three things to you Simon........

1)You are a total hero and I respect you hugely for sticking with the project for so long - Mine is out in the garage sitting under a car cover, where its been since last summer. I've run out of money for mine and haven't got the time, even if I did have the money. And if I had the time AND the money, I STILL WOULDNT BE WORKING ON IT, because I'm sick of the sight of the faking thing! For sticking to it for so long, you have my total respect! I will buy you a beer at the Ace at the end of this month and you can tell me how much its p1ssed you off!

2)Pina Blue!!!!!! I kept my Sport Diamond Black and I know it'll never stand out, but had my Sport been available in another colour from the factory, say penis blue, I'd have resprayed it in that colour!

3)I wish the bodyshop had been that thourough with the rust-removal/treatment on my Sport.   :x  :(

Oh well.

I draw some sort of inspiration from you Simon, even if its only to go out to the garage now, at 1am and look at the sorry-state of my un-finished turd.

I wasnt unhappy with the job onmy car for what I paid for it, but having watched Beardys/Pads/Kermits threads, it's faking crap and I want it ALL done again..... immediately.

This is where the haters and doubters can see where the extra monies is going.
