Indeed, or file a bit off the inside of the skirt of the heavier ones, until they match the lightest one...

I've not got any eta pistons Andy sorry. I think they could get this set to work by taking the weight off the gudgeon pins but they are very very hard material. I bet the old man could

but they think they are a little worn also, which they are so...........

Any pics of the undersides? The M20 pistons are a massive lump, I find it hard to believe there is nowhere to nib 3 grams out of :o

Another 7 months on and an e34 M5 has come to distract and no engine yet :) :( But to help for some much needed inspiration and the arrival of baby no.2 in November i dragged it out the garage yesterday for the first time in...............i don't know 18months maybe even longer!

Buried under too much sh!te and rather dusty

Connected up a battery and the windows and sunroof shut no problem. Impressed

Image

Snow foamed, twice then some 2 bucket wash action

Oz suggested a wash last week to help motivate, so powelly came in to do the deed!

Looks good and is 99% still like it was when painted. Next as always is the engine. I won't be posting about that because i don't want any added pressure after all the previous dramas :o

You kind of forget how much effort/money i've put into this to get this close to finishing.

yeah, when he does he will be happy with an engine that pretty much has the same power and torque as a stock m30 with 800cc less

Will you use a vernier cam pulley to get the timing spot on ?

i'm not watching f**k all. yes Vernier will be used Jim

i know it will run if i time it up with schricks timing hole which puts the cam timing 180 degress out, so by reversing the firing order it will run. But the vernier will let the cam be dialled in so its all proper. Thats the plan anyway

As for what power who knows! On paper its a good M20 spec which isn't too far off Alpinas spec really

How far out is the cam timing Si? Have you timed it up with a degree wheel?

Its not been dialled in yet, i've set it to stock - albeit with the ignition timing 180 out. I need to drop it off at my engine place for them to do it.

I can reverse order the ignition leads and it will go. Thats the plan anyhow

Simon do you know if you can still buy the 'Alpina' eccentric top mounts ? I have them on my H35 and I'm wondering if they came on C2s also or just B6 3.5 ?

how so? if the cam gear is 180* out compared to the mark on the face of the head you just need to rotate the crank 1 full turn and the cam will rotate 180* at the same time and its back to where it should be, unless im misinterpreting what youre saying?
