Looks like loads of fun si, wish i still lived down in woking, would love to help on a project like this! Glad you chose those billies/cup kit spring set up, your pretty lucky having cup kit springs on their own! Good choice.

Am going to have a spare set of alloy wishbones soon bert, will ring you tomorrow!

Talking of badges i called Sytners yesterday to enquire about the C2.5 badges for the front and rear of mine and they are 75 quid each :eek: 75 quid for a tiny piece of plastic what a fuggin rip off :?

Welcome to the world of Alpina!

Ask them for a cam for a C2 2.7 and they'll tell you it's NLA. But they will suggest a B3 2.7 cam which comes from the catalyst version for just £700. Shame it's a standard 325i cam with same part numbers and a 100% markup - robbing feckers.

BTW I'd be happy to do a valuation for the insurance when you've finished it. That's gonna be a £10'000 car.

Ah a picture fest people! I've stripped the engine down last week to the bare bones. So we can lay all the gossip about it knocking and all the other sh!te people thought was going on from it when it was running!

Nice bit of scoring best picture i can do!

Now this engine had only done 300 or so miles on it since it had been "rebuilt". It was rebuilt because it smoked badly so the story goes. And when it was stripped piston no.5 had different rings to the other 5 is what they found. They also said on the reciept i have that this piston was heavily scored. To me it doesn't look any worse than the other 5. The bores were glaze busted which seems true. The honing marks are still there and the bores feel and look ok.

looking at the big end shells or the state they are in after 3500miles use, they are all scored and pitted.

But the big ends on the crank seem fine. So off with the main end caps.......

As you can see it got alot worse, the pictures aren't quite clear enough of the crank but it's all covered in swarf on all the journals, so the crank will need a regrind on the main ends aleast! 1 journal feels particulary sp bad

None of the shells had spun which seems lucky looking at it as the engine had low oil pressure aswell when it was running

Luckily i have a spare 324d crank :D which doesn't need a regrind.

I haven't stripped the head but i'm expecting it's a similar story.

Ah the bodyshop i hear you cry? well i am after 2months or more of waiting for it to go in. So i've lost my patience with them and boll0cks to it. So it's going to barrys place instead now. Just sorting out what i'd like to get done and the price first, I wanted it painted before the year as this has always been my goal for this year, but it's not going to be now. Never mind eh?

Who rebuilt that engine then simon do you know? Truley shocking workmanship, it doesnt take much does it; i mean its hardly a monsterously expensive, over complex engine. Fu*king monkeys. Non the less on and up! Decided the colour yet?

I would take the block to an engine specialist and get the bores measured with an internal micrometer - they could be tapered all to hell and oval. Also get the main bearing housings mic'ed as well as they may well be slightly out of round. Judging by the state of the crank (which could be bent) I'd be looking for a virginal 325i block to start again with. At the very least you'll need to punch the oil gallery plugs out and get the oilways cleaned out because they will be full of crap. Throw the oil cooler away as well, that's now full of swarfy oil..
When I did Adams 2.8 engine, I did this and refitted the mains shells upside down to block the oilways and used a steam cleaner to really blast all the shyte out. Your engine has got very, very hot at some point as if the crank has been binding. It's certainly cooked the oil.
For what a decent block is going to cost, I'd start with a block with no issues. You can always re-stamp the engine number.

I need to clean it all up and get it off to my old mans workshop and get the micrometer out agreed. As said i've got agood crank and pistons spare and a 2.0 block. I had a good 2.5 block from my auto, and sent it down the scrap yard :? another bad by me along with the un rusty dented fuel tank and pump :o: I keep kicking myself over that one!

Colour's staying Diamond!

Engine nothing too hairy will be close to alpina spec for me. I'm amazed this engine made 190bhp/190lbs on Dave Walkers rollers as even the rotor was f**ked out of it's brains it had air leaks, none functioning throttle position switch and champion spark plugs to top it off.

loving the rebuild pics si,well done.Its hard graft but worth it in the end.

Simon, I still have that numbered, pukka Alpina block/rods and minty pistons dude.

they are actually Garys' but I have instructed to sell on his behalf.

Its an option, but so is a fresh 84mm bored B20, loosing the steam holes is not the end of the world dude.

Ant i've got that complete bottome end spare from Jit's old engine remember?! I've also got a 2.0 block so there's options here.

Custom lightweight oversize 1 slugs is another nice expensive option!

Stu i was going to call in randomly on sunday as i was in Bracknell but i had to get back asap from there cos my dad, ramdomly turned up!
