What are you trying to say?

That "you" do Cooper Norwich's engine rebuilds on cars that are under warranty?

Why would someone need to spend 10k if the car is covered by warranty?

An '03 car would be nearly 6 years out of manufacturers warranty so for a car to be covered by warranty at that age it would have to have had an extended warranty or an AUC warranty.#

Either way, no BMW main dealer would sub contract ANY warranty repair!

cheers rodderz!

it's not sub contracting it's offering them an alternative if they don't want to spend that sort of money.

out of warranty was definitly the prowords on this one as a warranty job on a knackered engine would be just replaced with a new unit at no cost???? how strange!

Somebody ban this fool! He obviously works out the back of a car auction which could be the only reason a car capable of leaving under its own power never returns!

Barry. Put the man out of his misery will you and explain to him the number of rebuilds you've done on the dealer ramp

The reason I asked for the whereabouts of his work on another thread is so that I could hit "diversion" on the sat nav should I ever be unfortunate to appear close by!

If it were my engine, and I had a spare head, I'd be tempted to clean up the pistons as best as you can and have another go, perhaps checking with plasticine for clearance as you did with the Touring engine.

While I'd sometimes agree, the car this is going into deserves a whole lot more. No expense has been spared elsewhere on the restoration.

Okay so it's more time (and more importantly more expense) but I believe nows the time to pull the block, put it on the stand, strip it bare again and start gathering the parts it needs. A spare head is already on the shelf, it's just a case of gathering the rest of the parts.

Did Pacer ever sell those spare Mahle slugs you sold him Si?

I wasn't going to bother mention that but what i was getting at is that for BMW to replace an engine under warranty the engine has to have two out of the three following components damaged,

Head
Cylinder bore
Crankshaft

If only one of those is damaged then the engine will be repaired.

They will not get involved in grinding cranks or reboring blocks for warranty either.

Tay please don't take this the wrong way but i started this thread and resto in 2006, its taking a while as you can see. Please keep all your total crap to your own resto thread and not fill mine up with the utter sh!te you do to your cars. Thats fine what you do i just don't want to read and hear about it on here.

I've read enough on the tech forum and other places to know your working methods are not to how i like to do things

Thank you
