it has a full twin pipe 3 piece set up steve,

i think i've bought a remus back box but waiting on post details.

i think fitting the parts i had from the buy up will work re the m20 box with the diff should give better mpg return and the 6.6 kg fly will help it sprint? against the m42 box, mine crunches at 6.5k rpm in 2nd shift.

pics of the afm doo-dad en route lads when i get the chance.

Have you pm'd him? he might be able to throw some info on what the engine came out of and history, mileage, etc....

In the thread he mentioned something about bodging an M20 water pump with the M50 one :?

If i was putting this engine into an E30 i would consider modding the gearbox support more to lower it a tad as when i cut the tunnel open (when it was pishing down with rain) to undo the prop etc i did notice the gearbox was a bit too close to the top of the tunnel for comfort. You could put spacers in between where it bolts to the shell.

It will work but im sure the other side needs to be modded too to keep the prop straight

Image

Im sure i have a pic somewhere in my stash where i peeled the tunnel back showing what i mean about being close, ill be back :)

I believe most M20 box modders bash the tunnel with a block of wood and sledge for clearance

Extreme tunnel hacking :D

Image

You can just see how close it is on the edge of the pic.

Edit: you can see in the pic where with the prop bolts undone there's a gap at the top where the prop is being pushed up.

that looks like vibration right there!

my m42 box crunches in 2nd over 6k rpm?

i may still go with the m20 box and a spacer or two.

i'll look into pm'ing him tomorrow if he's about.

these are only small issues i'm sure i'll fettle it proper like.

now the pro's are looking 8)

You need to use the clutch pedal Mick, it's the one on the left.

E36 will be a direct 5th gear box so you will need a diff around a 3.25 ratio, ive heard M40 boxes can be used :?:

you can use an m40 box. I used one when i had my m50 in my e30, then changed to the e36 328i box when the m52 went in.

My setup is

M50 gearbox
M50 prop (e30 centre bearing)
M50 gearlever bracket (z3 leaver)
M20 lightened flywheel and clutch release bearing and M50 slave.
Diff you need 3.15 -3.4ish :D

you use the standard gearbox mounts for the m40 box :thumb: the modded gearbox cross member will be no use with the m40 box so use the standard one already on the car :) 3.64 diff will be ok, but a 3.91 will be better suited to traffic light grand prixs

a pink engine crane? this is a 24v engine conversion magpie not a poofy m30!! :P

If you use the m20 flywheel use a m20 clutch (ive not heard of people using m42 clutches on these)
