is that what B trim told you ?Royalratch wrote:Cost of proper colonising isn't far off a re-trim. Unless you want to keep the original leather for some reason, I'd go re-trim every time...Kos wrote:very nice, very nice indeed.
gold stripes may make it look JPS, but i think they can still work better than silver. for the shelf, you can have either but get it re carpeted not died
also, colonising. the Rolls Royce trimmers local to me will be able to sort them out a treat to look as new
how much is a re trim, i've seen them priced up at £1000 and £3000 for the same job by different trimmers
the guys i use are more than up to the job, and if done right is more original that re trim and less expensive.

"Colonising" is quite an involved intricate procedure, hence the cost. Connollising on the other hand is a lot more reasonable

I don't claim to be intelligent - the Zone does.
Intelligence has nothing whatsoever to do with spelling, which you'd know if you had any of the stuff about you.

i can't preach a thread clean up with my reputation!

but to show how we are bumbling along despite the distractions
k this gets sad real quick. ok this is the nuts bmw gave me, rubbish, the real OE ones are much thinner like.........

This, i was trawling that bmwmini spares website for their nuts and bolts stock

I bought 8, my only explaination being that i thought they were more normal? i'm not sure but it won't bankrupt the project

They had alot of good bits which i've hoovered up a fair bit. this is the engine nuts and bolts and bits box. shame nothings ready to use them yet.
..

There had been bitching from various quarters about the rust on the rear B6 dampers being employed. well these are some more B6 dampers and are nearly new.......
So the real truffle shuffle can begin. As the old dampers from here will go onto the C2 touring. As the touring is using the genuine alpina shocks from this car. I know, didn't realise at the time! and i'd like the have the proper shocks spare incase i ever changed my mind

These newer billys now sport a ring sticker for that motorsport plug!

Nice fookin seats bert, cheers

Now the histeria of the red leatherz has died down. Or really the red 325 is sorted out now.
So yesterday had an itch to wheel her out and remember whats going on here. Well the crank is still at the machine shop i don't know whats going on as its been about 6 weeks and no word so i'm going to pop in soon and see what the crack is.
Not all has been lost check this puppy out

Stock fly and a lightly fettled flywheel. Well the shiney one has had about 1.9 kgs off it and a reface clutch side. This was done my by Dad, what a nice chap

better to see where the weight has gone. One of the best mods this imo. Its all WIN as the USA wannabitches say!

Oh yeah how could forget, so out of all this we need to make sense of it all. This isn't all of it!

Clutch switch and bracket for the cruise control. Seems a very good time to fit it as it can been a right f**ker when dash etc is in.

So here is the dash all in bits and all the looms that need to be fitted. We have the lighting loom, 13 button OBC and cruise control to go in here. Plus the Alpina vent guage
This is why its all in bits as we need to strip it all right out to get the centre grills out

I like bits made in 1988 if they are replacements as it matches the build date. 89 won't cut it. This is purely luck most of the time!

Hers the little f**ker or the business end. Didn't one go on ebay for 500 euro?! makes me twich a bit when i get this out

Here is the centre air vents with one taken out. I did this a while ago after researching which one to take out. I think the outer would be a better idea but thats not cricket it seems

So carefully pop this little plastic thing out........

Which allows you to pop the flap out. Now we need to cut a hole in it,

Heres the first one. i cut this at 25mm which was waaaaaaay to big, silly boy not concentrating! Plus this cut looked a bit bodge

cut no.2 taken from another spare flap from another dash, i cut this at 20mm

Perfect nice fit with the gromment. How proper

Re fitted. Ace innit. But it just wants to look at the floor that is not ace. So this is kind of where i am at now in thinking if its always going to point to the floor i'm going to get well p!ssed of quickly with it after the amount it cost.

So i've taken it all apart again to try see what i can do with it maybe. Plus it was very dusty and i hadn't cleaned it, i was scared tbh

Purple lenses?!

So 80's

After a wash with some plain warm water and a very soft little brush. The white lettering is actually slightly smudged where someone has cleaned it with something a bit too abrasive. Look at the colour of the water!
Looks 100% better now its nearly dry.
With this and the rest of the looms in the dash i think i can fit the dash in
i can then start to get the interior show on the road. Just the minor task of finding homes for the Alarm unit and the ECU for the alpina vent guage. The cruise control ECU is taking up valueable space so thinking hat is on as space is tight. Where there is a will there is a way!

Good work Si. So why is is pointing south all the time? Have to say, the centre vents in my current dash seem to do the same and it's always pissed me off. My new dash is much tighter in that area.
I know it sounds frightening but maybe a little heat around the tabs and a tweek to tighten the tabs???
Or!!!! sharp scalpel, rubber grommets with the same size centre hole as the mounting pin and shave 2 thin rubber spacers to pack it out and increase the friction between the gauge and the aperture?
Just an idea like................

It looks like a Maplin DIY electronics kit. Did you try hooking up the illumination wire and power to see if it fires up.

no not yet steve i'm going to clean the red'un first and then crack on.....
i've also thought about fitting a spacer disc in or something along those lines. It has to be right without looking bodged
The soldering on the display is better than most maplin customers would be my guess!!

So it fits the same as the vents???? I think trev might right, some strategically placed packing inside the aperture will sort, you'll never know It's there.

Both of those are standard fair TBO. this Alpina vent Gauge is on another level as theres so few about actually fitted, it's difficult to know where tio start!SHAKEELE30 wrote:brave man si, im the same situation, need to fit a obc & cruise control, but dare not attempt it, as all that wiring confuses the shit out of me...
I could not believe how easy and straight forward the cruise retro fit was when Si and I did mine a few weeks back. The hardest part is mounting the ECU
