Might be of use Trev, that pipe just hanging down is the vent pipe. The other system on the later cars uses a "S" shaped rubber pipe here and connects to that long metal pipe which runs along the nearside cill. The "C" shaped one connects to the fuel filter and then goes onto the fuel rail. The other feeds eventually to the Fuel pressure regulator. You don't need it imo this way is fine, pyf, my old 4 door were all early 88 cars plus the red one and vent this way.

If you follow the pipework back this vent ends up at the breather bottle in the offside arch. No way fuel is coming out this far unless you had a massive massive pressure problem with something blocked elsewhere!! lol

Image

Beather pipes from the tank to the bottle in the arch taped together as per factory spec! I've just ordered 2 more of the big cloth pipe, which at £20 a go isn't funny and i found one new! I though i'd used it. You can't really get muddled when connecting these up as the 2 plastic pipes are different sizes. Anyhow i've pulled that through so ready but waiting for some more parts to arrive from the dealer and i desperatley need to get my fuel filler neck re powder coated.

Anyone want it? Trev? or i'll ring up and cancel one on monday

Barry getting my H&R bars off?! i can fit the rear one now hehe :)

I found this on RealOem whilst looking for clips, loom cloth tape for the engine bay etc. 53p for the roll, love it

Part No. 61 13 6 902 588 for all the resto homos out there

Image

Heres one i bent up earlier, a right fiddle generally when the beam is fitted so why make life hard?!
25m of tape for 53p, bargain, i'm gonna need two!! large sections of my harness tape is quite literally falling apart.

What did you use to bend the brake pipes??

I thought about the brake pipes as we fitted the beam, oh well, its need to be a rolling shell, and i havent got some of the brakes pipes i need yet anyway, onwards and upwards :D

I bent the pipes with my hands and used a socket on the tight bits. The steel dealer pipe doesn't bend like copper though

I had an orignal t-piece with the 2 pipes on it as a template to help too.

I'm now thinking maybe i should of put the fuel tank in first.......oh well not the first time you have a brainwave after the event!
my locking plates were hard to line up until I realised I shouldn't have tightened the 22mm nut :?

I loosened the nut and they went on a treat , I don't see any reason for them not to be nipped up to the sill , if the beam bushes are pulled in tight i would think thats where they are staying, :)

looking awesome Si, I need to get the washer bottle ordered, how much was it ?

Si, I have a black powder coated filler neck pipe in fine order - if you get stuck. If you want it then PM me your address and I'll send it to you.

Looking good so far!

Washer bottle is about £20 Steve, but thats the bottle and nothing else! I found one side fell one and the other i had to tighten the 22mm up a wee bit to get it all lined up

Damo Cheers, i've had the filler done once already and then got this alpina long range tank and had to get some extra pipes welded to it. So i can't use a standard one but thanks anyhow

that cloth tape is a bit of a result :D that's cheaper than normal PVC tape in most places and i bet it's a lot nicer to use on loom repair jobs too. i'll add some of that to my next order

oh, don't forget to splodge plenty of copper grease on those screws little screws that go into the sill, i guess you don't want to be drilling them out any time soon. the little feckers do like to corrode in there :D

Need to bend brake pipe? -
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/CAR-MECHANICS-BRA ... 2314wt_941

The lines will go in easy with the tank off/beam in place, just need to be a bit more careful when fitting the tank but it will go in without hammering and prybars :)

Last time I priced up a washer bottle it was over £30 :?

Don't you like my hand bending Dan :(

Image
Wiper motor, this is officially the worlds fastest wiper motor. Bit of a waste on this car though. By the time i had got to this stage of sourcing a shiney nut to crown my achievement i'd spent 2 hours getting there! f**king about with the linkage

Image
This was the wrong way round :? As in opposite side to how it is now. Took stripping the touring down to work it out! plank. Barry you missed a bit with the waxoyl 8O

Image
New grills going in, i had to buy 6 sodding little metal clips for them. BMW are so tight sometimes, you can't fit the grills without the clips so why list them all on their own

Image
New arms in, nice. Skanky old wipers though, no point in new ones for it when we are still an age off finishing i think. Parked in the ghetto position

Image
Second attempt on the numberplate. It did have stickers on it but kept falling off so the screws have come out. Won't fall off now. This took me ages also, i couldn't line the holes and screws up. I measured it all the mm. Must be lack of smoking today impairing me. Very odd working on the car and not stopping for a tab!

Thats all i did today my feet were too cold by then. Its barely got above 1 here today so i shant be going to work 2moro! I'll find something to do on this i'm sure instead and wave my misssus off in the morning :tongue2:

Loving your work Si, not big fan of the euro ID number plates though. Doesn't Dave H have some of the original typeface for the old style plates? It would look good with some Sytner Nottingham logo addition too!

Yep looks like the real deal to me, old style larger font, single colour lettering at the bottom.

Any chance you could send a close up picture of the lettering at the bottom of the plate, would like to try to get that replicated for my turd, its a Sytners Nottingham car too, would look good i think when its finished.

I went back to super minimal, non EU, non German nonsense too - looks rad although a nice little BMW dealer caption may look more 'authentic.'

Ratch

I also think the pre 2001 old sytle larger font plate would be more in keeping as well.

Although as you know refitting such plates is a legal no-no, but when fitted your average copper aint gonna know is he, all he will see is a early 90's car on a "H" plate with what appears to be normal style plates of that period :D

When you buy them of course they will only be sold to you as "show plates" winkeye

Is this the famous biblical, rapide, Sterling Wiper motor Si?

When I sold that car to Si, I mentioned it had the fastest wipers in the west! And he couldn't believe it! I've never seen an e30 with wipers like it!

Wish I'd put it in the 'vert now. But as per Si's car. The most it sees is washer fluid

See the Reg in Si's car here /\. Well the Original reg on my car was.............F363 EDV. These 2 cars must of been converted at the same time. Pretty dam close worth sorting this out and getting the original plate back? Would look good at a show next to each other i think! but do you need MOT though?

I like euro plates plus these have the bmw/alpina logo on them!

You can try to get the plate back Si but I'm not sure how much faffing you'd have to do or whether the DVLA scummers would even entertain such a wild goose chase?

Yeah, you have do it through the DVLA i think as they hold all the those old regs. Simon told me he had to send off his log book, mot etc. And it was alot of aggro!

For the stupid amongst us, bear with me here......, i take it your car was already registered as F363 EDV, "DV" meaning an Exeter registration.

Then i'm guessing sent to Sytners Notts for the conversion and re-registered ending in "MCH", "CH" denoting a Nottingham registration, i'm confused :(

No no, the car along with Simon's Dolphin car were both registered to SMB Exeter (Which is called Ocean BMW main dealer now? i think) as their first registered keepers. Mines led a multi owner and much harder life than Simon's! As i am the 11th owner. So we think they were possibly 2 demo/company car Alpinas for the south west region at a guess

Mine went onto its current reg in 93, it was sold by a dealer in my area so i guess the private plate taken off and the sytners reg applied.

The cars were converted BEFORE they were registered is my understanding, mine converted and then held back for the "F" reg! Should of been an E really. Clear as mud. I don't think sytners registered them all. They just converted them.

The Alpina green 4dr C2 2.7 i broke was sold new by L&C tunbridge wells but registered originally with a Nottingham RA reg.

Twice I've transferred my "personal" plates off cars onto new ones and both times the "donor" cars got their original plates back.
Simples!
This is why I no longer drive an E30......

That seems to be the norm now. I always get the original back but it was not like that before. Vehicles were re registered using the next available age related plate from the area the docs were processed.

it was like that until the mid nineties I believe.

My nice slippy diff here shes a 3.64, as the car came with this from new and the 2.7's drive nicely with these. With some new bolts and sh!t

Onto the car

Image

Refurbed trailing arm, the rubber spring cup is the 3mm thinnest they do from the dealer! 5mm would of been a better choice i expect

Image

The end of the handbrake cable or bowden as bmw call it. This little slug just slots in nice as pie, it can't fall out either. Now i tried getting one out of the old arm. It was welded in i can't get it out. Pointless story so....

Image
Ready to roll

Image

Image

ahhhh a Bilstein, a B6 to be precise. This is just bilsteins spec or aftermarket replacement. Had them on my old sport, they've covered about 30,000 miles. These are one of the main cogs in the 13's favourite suspension setup! All ne collars nuts and top mounts which are.............................................e46 M3 cab ones 8)

Image

Spring in also, H&R cupkit :) my favourite

Image

Halfshaft drying off, i've just cleaned them up and put a lick of paint on each end. The CV joints on these 2 are pretty good and theres no cracking, splitting on the boots so happy days i'd say. Just fed the rubber to help them along the way

Image
Image

Front to rear brake pipe, plus the fuel lines in.

Barry can i have my roll bars back please, good progress its all coming together nicely. Waiting on a few bits re the fuel system but thats one of the themes of this type of project waiting!!
