So...... a wee bit more

New rear quarter seals shaped like a heart isn't that sweet until you look at the price tag

Image

Fitted, a little bit of a pain but not like some other seals which i'll mention later!

Image

So i took the rear quater lights off because of my headlining dramas which was not actually a drama

So staurday saw me putting it all back to how i had it and getting stuck into the sunroof mech. So thats all back in both sides with the motor and i've tried to regrease the runners and worm drive, lovely

Bit of a sh!te pic but you get the idea, this took bloody ages trying to work out the right order to put it all back, luckily i'm never with out a spare E30 to check! Pina touring came in handy here. Pulling all the lining around is a complete arse to do. Its not perfect but i've tried my best i doubt i'll do it any better

Image

So heres where we are at, lots of clips and trim going back in. I'm trying to get the car weather tight then i'll get underneath it, build the engine bla bla

Image

I'm pretty pleased with it, the camera doesn't lie when picturing these either! no creases and it looks to me like the jobs a goodun again.

More progress as parts turn up this week from Germany i hope!

PS

Anyone got a decent rear screen? i've lost the original one for the car somehow :? and the 2 i have in my garage are scrap

Thanks for that PM Alex but i'll stick with these they cleaned up a treat.

I is been at it today seeing as i've not worked this week really

So, heres a new stash of new bits from the dealer

Image
Bumper trims

Image
Top tint screen 8)

Image

Screen in, i've got the beads but i need to lay my hands on the tool to fit them. I'm not giving it the 2 screw driver trick on these new seals and i haven't got all day to do it!

Image

Rear one in, same thing here and also i'm waiting on one of the beads, its on back order :?
I've somehow lost thrown away the original rear screen :hammer: So this came from Pacerpetes back passage literally. It was f**king minging but all is good now

Image
Nice. Been in my spare room getting dusty for over a year now!

Image
Instalation and new bead round the edge

Image
Now the bead is too long and needs to be cut down. I really didn't want to do a Barry and cut it 10mm short! :P

Image
Lovely. Like it f**kin grew there

Image
Image
Fitted! lol not too bad here, i've adjusted it to how i think is best, it all tilts up and slides back hunky dory. I cant really do any more until i get the car loom powered up and i can reset the E/motor and go from there. Then i can finish this off and re fit all the trim, wind break and sunvisors bla bla bla

Moving on!

Image
Image
Image
Plate on why not?! makes it seem like a runner :chuckle:

Image
Side rears

Image
Image
Don't forget this little grub screw folks! Or the trim will fall off in the wind, well it wont but

Image

And there we are, this lot has cost an absolute bomb and basically i'm skint again. Red car funds didn't go far. Although there is more left for some more prize morsels which will here soon.

So nearly weather tight, Just the doors to sort out, and then it will be underneath for some rear beam action, diff fitting, front struts, rool bars, handbrake and all that really not fun stuff. But at least its proper spannering which i feel more at home doing!

looking awesome mr 13!

when it's finished, are you going to be able to bring yourself to use it properly though?!

if you thrash it round the ring, it would be a shame to risk damaging it.

if you drive it like a granny, it would also be a shame as it's a drivers car and meant to be driven hard!

Dan thats most kind i'm not sure which bit it is tbh i need to check but if it goes NLA i'll send you some funds straight away

Screen is a dealer top tint! 198+vat  discount helped but not much! My camera is only 2megabits tis the best i'm aloud to use. Her indoors 5meg digi SLR is off limits, i don't know how to use it either!

Gareth i can't comment on usage, i've always said it will go to the ring. Only if its 1 trip, i won't go flat out. I think by not driving it would be worse than driving it hard! The pina touring gets some grief so shouldn't this? I'll get more enjoyment from using it that all this sh1t putting it back together!

Most kind comments thanks! This is the approach if you throw enough money at new parts it will come good?! Trev the engine detailing is where you come in!

No probs. I reckon we strip the cam cover and inlet and use them. The base will be a far better condition having been painted all these years. More work to start with but a better finish in the end me thinks.

I don't reckon the screen money was that bad. I may order one up for the cab!

Fitting the 'screens is the easy bit, honest, seal to the body, lay the 'screen in the bottom of the opening, check VERY carefully that it is central, then ease the seal over it.
Hard part is the bit Simon is waiting to borrow the tool for, putting the rubber locking strip in!
This can be done with washing up liquid to lubricate the rubber winkeye and a small flatbladed screwdriver...but the chances of slipping and marking an expensive re-spray are very high,Simon is right to wait for the loan of the correct tool.
These jobs all take time, patience is the best tool that we have.
Cars have round wheels, why? So they can be driven! They would have square wheels if they were meant to be parked in a field and looked at,with a view to winning a cup or two.
Keep up the good work.

No worries. What we need to do is source the best castings we can find. Some are a bit rough around the rasied bits and they never look right. I have a peachy cam cover here that I reckon would make a good end result.

Simon if you trace the green/blue wire down from the sunroof motor (runs down the passenger pillar ) and connect it to a live 12v feed you will have sunroof action !
