Mick, I'm proper p155ed off for you. It all sounded so promising yesterday morning, when I was there..........

Looking at that, it should break for good money - ie. free engine!
This is why I no longer drive an E30......

Before you go buying other engines Mick, has it actually cooked itself?

When bleeding these turds, I remove the fan switch and keep filling until water / coolant comes out the switch hole. I have come across a few that have had over heating / pressurising issues after recent work and removal of the fan switch was followed by a load of air. Obviously the temp of the rad core will be a clue if you have this issue.

On a positive note, Rav is not here to take the p1ss ! :)

Run the fooooker up until she is hot and with the kidney grille removed, check the rad, if there is air in the rad, it will be cooler in the corner where the switch is. Crack it off and see what happens, if you get air, you might be lucky. Repeat a couple of times until the heater STAYS hot after idling for a while and take her for a spin. If this does not work, time for the Swan Vestas ! :(

Re filling it, either or really, as long as you get a steady stream coming out of the fan switch hole.
Being a wise old sort I am sure she only has water in her. I never fill them with coolant until I am sure there are no issues. The fear of poisoning cats / dogs / Rav is a distant second to seeing £15 of antifreeze go down the drain :(

i gave it a good bleed up,i took the fan switch out and filled it up till water came out of switch hole and filler cap together then stuck the fan switch back in.now the rad is full to the brim i drained some water out down to fill level and took it for a 10 mile drive, checked over then went out all night in it having fun :D
