Hi guys... Looking to build a m20 3.0 stroker with an e46 330i crankshaft
Any suggestions on how to make it work... Which rods do i use and i heard the crank isn't a straight install... What needs to be done to complete the build... And is it better to use domed piston or flat top pistons...

- BMW factory 135mm rod from a m5x engine is more than adequate.
- Aftermarket 4032 forged pistons from Top end in the USA made by JE as these can be made as replica of OE dome which is recommended. They have the 8.8 and 9.7 style piston domes which will give around 10-11:1 compression. 85mm bore will allow stock head gasket, deeper valve reliefs for added duration.

- you need a spacer for the crankshaft snout to accommodate the oil seal, there are several vendors that sell this.
- Longer crank bolt from m5x engine, plus its washer (m20 or m5x washer are same) needs to be machine to reduce the step so it clamps correctly.
- the intermediate shaft may need to be slimmed down a bit in the middle portion so the rod doesn't hit it.
- check the counterweight to block clearance, it should be ok but depends on the year of the block.
There is nothing very involved once you've got pistons and the crank spacer its pretty straight forward just like stock rebuild but some additional clearance checks.
