Mart,
Drinking that fizzy stuff is just liquid sugar, you might as well have a beer and be done with it.
Old boy up north once said to me find a nice single malt you like and get used to it. In my 20s 30s and 40s I thought it was waffle but as time goes on I'm seeing the logic. Small amounts and take your time and enjoy it .... quite civilised.

I agree. In the past couple of years I have been having a rum or whisky instead of beer or ale. Pour a good measure, sit in your favourite chair and enjoy the flavour and take your time. The key is good quality although that doesn't have to mean expensive. Still feels good after a long day at work but no bloated feeling.

Real Ale & Whisky man myself, avoid mixers and fizzy drinks.
Essentially overall it is the ELMM diet you need, the only one that works ;) Eat Less, Move More

You don't mix Vodka you do a shot and then have a soft drink as a chaser, used to do a Vodka shot then have a Jack Daniels and coke as a chaser, check out Spirytus at 95% they lowered the content years back from 97% but you don't drink that neat unless you are hardcore.

Whisky.
Gin and slimline.
Beer is liquid bread, cider isn't much better. A Gentleman doesn't imbibe such muck.
For your spirits - Lidl.
Ben Bracken single malt in three forms - Islay, Highland and Speyside. £17 a bottle and VERY drinkable.
Lidl gin is on a par with Bombay Sapphire - and I'm a long term gin drinker.
Waitrose or proper wine merchant near you? Blow 25+ quid on a bottle on Bumbu rum. It's too moorish but WOW.
DO NOT throw the bottle away after. Use it to decant olive oil, washing up liquid.....anything.
Get into spirits and you'll have little interest in liquid bread again.
