Excuse my whinge, but why is it so hard to find a lockup garage in Derbyshire? So frustrating. The compromise when we bought our house was garage space and off road parking, stupid me.

Pretty soon my E30 will be released from its fettling slumber and I currently have nowhere to store it. The closest I came was a leaky lockup over the Nottinghamshire border, for £170 per quarter. I declined having just got the paint perfect. They had a nice dry double, but that was £440 a quarter! To be honest they were a 30 minute drive away and I suspect this would quickly get on my man boobs!

I’d hate to have to sell the car, but other than hideously expensive classic car storage, I’m not sure I have a choice. I’ve had a Gumtree advert running for four months with no joy. I’ve got myself onto a waiting list with a Housing Association and with a person who owns a bunch of lockups, but no joy yet.

Soooo frustrating.

I feel your pain, dude. I now realise how lucky I am in Bristol as i got sent a list of hundreds of local (within 10 miles) garages from various associations and even the council. I also put up a facebook ad on a local page and had four people contact me saying I could rent their garage and I ended up renting a decent size single garage alongside an off-road parking space for £100 monthly which is about a minute walk from my place... the perfect outcome.

Have you tried posting on your local village groups on facebook? Is worth a try.

Good luck,
Rich

You would be better off asking locals if they know of any unused private garages you could rent, theres usually a few old dears in decent sized houses that just use their garages for keeping the wheelie bins in, these people dont look on gumtree etc you have to hunt them down

i know what you mean about trying to find some where to keep the car,

bolsover council have a few lock ups round shirebrook but they are always taken up by the same folk (friends of councillors?) who never seem to use them properly just fill them with crap,

over winter i had mine stored under a gazbo with a cover on the car much to the annoyance of the housing association,

hopefully i can find somewhere by next winter.

good luck with your search.

I had sorted a garage, renting off an elderly lady we knew, but unfortunately she passed away after contracting Covid. Think I might try a card in the village shop and the local butchers and see what happens.

£440 a quarter is a complete bargain. Try living in a country were 80% live in flats/apartments.

Here... €200 a month for a single garage + electric/water.

As Dan said, ask locally. I found a place by asking the local mechanic. He knew a guy!
