PPI reclaim

evening folks,

now i know it's not a subject normally raised on this site but here goes.

have any of you done a PPI reclaim in the last few years?

in june last year i decided to see if a loan i had through black horse finance nearly 10yr's ago had any PPI on it after hearing from a few friends that had done it & been successful.

i used the resolver site (money saving expert martin lewis's site), filled in as much detail as i could & sent it all off,

fast forward to september last year, i had a letter from black horse stating that yes there was PPI on the loan & they would look into it & get back to me,

fast forward (again) to june this year, had another letter off them saying there had been a delay & they were dealing with my claim,

then in september just gone i got another letter off them saying they had looked at my claim & found in my favour & that they would be sending me a cheque for £5496 (minus income tax) for financial redress (compensation) & it would be with me by no later than 14th october & if it had not turned up by then to contact them.

well, guess what? the 14th came & went & no sign of the cheque so i waited till today to see if it turned up but still nothing,

so, thinking what have i got to lose apart from a phone call i rang them, went through all the security questions & the lady i spoke to said that that "tes there was a cheque due coming to me, it had been signed off/generated on the 5th october but she couldn't see on the system if it had been posted or not.

she also said that if i cancelled that check thinking it had got lost in the post that it could take anything from 28 days to 6 weeks for a new one to be issued, which i thought was a bit of an extreme timescale.

so, has anyone else been through this? if so did the cheque turn up by the stated date or several days after?

i've never done anything like this before so it's all new to me & to be honest the money would be a massive help right now.

so if anyone has been through this is there anything i can do? anything i could say to make them pull their finger out?

thanks, i just hope they can get it done sooner rather than later.

as for a refurb? well my compo cxn17's could do with one before summer next year

I did one a few years back and it all came through all okay, don't forget these are trying times and the post can be slow in certain areas.

well a little update on this,

so far i've rang black horse 3 times in the last three weeks & got a different reply (excuse) each time.

first time i rang i was told that it could be lost in the post & i could either wait to see if it turned up, or cancel it & wait 28 days for a new one to be sent.

rang the following week to be told by 2 different folk that 1; the person who signed them off & made sure they got posted had been off with covid 19, the 2nd one told me they had got left in the back of a UK mail van but had now been found & were on the way & it should be with me by friday last week,

well, i rang again today as still no sign,

this time i was told that they had been found & were posted on the 17th it should be with me in a day or two, so, i laid it on a bit thick saying that seeing as i was on benefits & that i was being transferred onto universal credit (i'm not, i'm still on long term sick & on legacy benefits so unable to be moved to UC) & that my 1st payment wouldn't be for another 4 - 5weeks but during that time i was till liable for rent, & hat after this week i would be unable to pay my rent till the UC claim was sorted & i had limited money left for gas, leccy & food etc.

well, this seemed to illicit a response as the lady i was talking to said she would escalate a reissue of the cheque to a priority one & that the new cheque would be with me by next week sometme but couldn't say when exactly & that the "new" cheque would include extra interest to compensate for what had happen as an apology & a letter stating that would follow.

so, now it's back to the waiting, but just goes to show that if you don't chase things up the likes of the banks will just leave you to it.

My wife is sooooo good at sorting this type of crap out.
After the normal stuff has been gone through, she asks for their complaints procedure then if no joy threaten with the Financial Ombudsman !!!
This will cost them win or loose and they normally respond very soon afterwards.

cheers mart i'll give that a try when i ring then (again) tomorrow,

i tried th ombudsman the other week & all i got was "well they say they've posted it so you'll have to wait for it to arrive", not very helpful at all,

they claim that they can see the batch of cheque's mine was in were starting to be cashed late last week, yet when i asked if thats the case then where's mine got too? all i got was i dont know but it should be with you soon.

if nothing in the post tomorrow it's gonna be an interesting phone call.

well it looks like this could finally be sorted,

rang BH on monday & explained my situation in regards to financial hardship & the lady i spoke to said she would push it through as a priority re issue, & that it would all be sorted in a few days,

well the postman came & went today & still no sign of anything from them, so being bloody minded i decided to call them again using the direct dial number above.

well when i got through i explained to the lady about my situation & what was said on monday.

she said that they should've taken my phone number on monday but forgot to as they needed me to send them proof of my bank account as they thought it was a different bank to Lloyds.
i explained that my account was with LLoyds (has been for 10yr's), she asked me to hold the line while she looked into it.

she came back a few minutes later & said that because i banked with lloyds that all she needed was my account number & sort code, gave her that & she said that they would now issue payment as a faster payment but it would take between 2 - 4 working days to go through.

so, fingers crossed it's in my bank by tuesday next week, wednesday at the latest.

so, fingers crossed

well I've just got off the phone with Black horse (after nearly 30mins on hold) & they say that it was all sorted on Friday & that the payment (using BACS) should be with me in a few days.

i again explained my situation & that if payment was not in my bank by Friday morning/lunchtime (at the very latest) i would be calling back to make a formal complaint to them & request a same day payment (which both the FOS & FCA said that i can do & that BH CAN do whether they say different or not) & that i would then be taking it to the FOS to take it further as the way this has been handled is completely unacceptable, due to the fact that i have been told several different excuses the first couple of time i called.

so. if nothing by Friday then i start the complaints procedure.

anyway i better update this.

after i called them monday i left it, more than willing to wait till friday.
anyway got home monday evening, & i checked the bank to make sure a bill had gone out & got a little (MASSIVE!!!!) surprise.

the money (plus a little bit extra) was sat there, it had gone in about an hour after i had called them.

so thankfully it's all sorted now.

but just goes to show that with things like this if you just leave it they'll drag it out as long as possible but if you get one to them (a few times) things get sorted.

Great news Steve, big up for sticking with it man.

Now hear this.............
For a very long time now I have had a theory but now I am convinced it is true that each and every big company has a special department.
I call it the "Try it on dept".
Each time they owe you money they "Try it on" not to pay out until absolutely forced to meaning a lot of the time (smaller amouts mainly) people say F**k it and walk away.
Add these up and in no time there is a very big amount of money that has not been paid out and they alone are smiling.

If anyone else is in the same situation as Steve was , then stick it out and dont worry if you have to threaten THEM !!!
Just keep a record of all conversations (who with and time and dates ) and above all never give up !!
Some may laugh at this but have a good think about it and have a look through their eyes and you will know what I mean.

just so glad it's all finished now,

as you say they seem to like trying it on but seeing as it was £5.5K that was due to come to me there was no way i was letting it go.

like you say though if you don't push them they'll just drag their heels.
