This is not having a direct go at the police who do a brilliant job but dont you think that sometimes road closures for major "things" are far too lengthy??
There was a shooting in Leeds last evening and up until 15.00 hrs today the road was still closed.
This area is "vital" to the flow of major traffic in the whole of Leeds and backed up the whole centre and outgoing areas .
Half a mile on the same road is St James hospital, the largest in europe and no access was left to it at all as I was going to my visit in a hospital just passed this one and missed it because of traffic. Two more hospitals are around this area as well so how much has set back and cost the NHS but above all all those people who missed out today?
I live close to the M62 ( j 27- j28) and this road is closed for hours so many times in the year and when it happens it totally screws up the surrounding area.
I got lucky and I am going back next week with nothing lost but just one lane open would have saved so much grief for so many people.

Full search of the area so the area was closed as evidence etc etc needs to be collected. You don't want a 9 year old finding a fully loaded 9mm that the Police missed do you.

Same as whoever jumped off the m5 bridge last week, if it takes a long time to find items related to what happened there isn’t much else that can speed things up...

some of the road closures the police put in place can be a bit OTT.

saw three different accidents on bank holiday monday when i took my son back to his mums near mablethorpe,

first on e was on lincoln bypass, right in the middle, police just stood there looking at the building traffic, second was further on near wragby, police closed the road & just left folk to find their own way round (thank god for local/back road knowledge  )

thirs was on the way back along the A16 from alford (ulceby cross) towards louth, a fast stretch of road, traffic was backing up pretty badly,

saw a police officer i knew who asked me if i was going through louth, told him yes i was & he asked if i could lead a few cars down the back roads so they could get back on the A16 to continue their journey.
felt a right one leading a load of cars down a little used back road through a village that hardly saw any traffic.

turned out the road was still closed the next day, dread to think how bad the accident had been.
if it's got t*ts or wheels it's bound to be trouble...............prove me wrong.

The Police is very reluctant to close roads, so it is avoided at all costs, but in the case of a crime, the whole area needs to be closed for forensics.

A typical road closure can cost several hundred thousands of pounds, and this is for a few hours. I can't remember the cost I was given for this, but it was horrendous!

The cost of closing for days will go into millions.

Absolutely not , but as said just one lane open would have helped the big picture.
One hell of a lot of people missed out yesterday which has an emense knock on effect so all I was looking for was a bit of common sense yesterday and in the future.

I fully understand this, but to cut off a hospital (the size of most small towns ) from one direction has a huge effect in the surrounding area and must have cost the NHS immensly least of all the patients who failed to hit thier times not just there but at two other local hospitals as well.
A bit of common please.

if it's a crime scene, then it's a crime scene. I would have expected some sort of diversions in place, though...?

No issues with that , it was the amount of time for a major inner city road junction to be fully closed off for nearly 24 hours.
The local BBC and text did not report this situation for over 18 hours , not even "a police incident" on news and traffic.
Ironicaly ,the driver took the shot guy to ST James hospital just up the road where he was treated and sent home, later arrested though winkeye
