if they were to give honest and real reasons/facts and figures for people to make an informed decision then id listen. we wont get that. we'll get the usual mud slinging and made up scare stories.
depending on who you listen to theres totally opposite figures to prove their points.
i read figures that say scotland pays more than their fair share towards the union. english members say the opposite.
who knows?

In terms of money "we" put into Scotland against money generated IN Scotland, from what I understand it was more than viable 30 or 40 years ago but not anymore. Plus people involved in the debate seem to forget that oil is a finite resource.

Years ago I'd have agreed with you, however now it seems pretty cut and dried. Stats are funny things but in this case it looks clear that Scotland costs more than it generates. I'm no St. George wearing patriot on this matter and I don't subscribe to any rivallry or superiority complex relating to the Scots, I just think Scottish independance belongs in the same folder as the Euro. An interesting idea, but it brings far too many problems when you try to implement it.

Under no circumstances should the rest of the UK have a say.

It defeats the entire ideal of self determination!

This is a matter for the Scottish alone. Everyone should have an opinion but that's where it ends.

If England got to decide who stayed in the UK, Northern Ireland would of been abandoned years ago because it was politically unfashionable and expensive to defend British citizens, The Falklands would be abandoned also even with the islanders wanting to remain a British dominion

Politically unfashionable? I think most people would have voted to give it back to the Irish then it might have stopped the following 20+ years of bombing there and on the mainland.

ive no idea. thats one of the many serious issues to be debated. most likely we wont get that though, we'll get sensationalized scare stories and half truths instead plus stories about how alex salmond is a devil worshipper who kicks kittens and puppies in his spare time for fun.
and youll probably find more people will vote in the xfactor final than something like this though.

There has not been a vote on a united Ireland here because it is a minority movement. Sein Fein may call for one in the future but it presently doesn't have a majority backing.

From what you have said, murdering and terrorism is a legitimate way to gain political goals and leave the Irish to deal with the Irish!
Im no more Irish than the boil on your arse!

This is my home and I am British. Do I deserve lesser treatment than you because you live on the mainland? Do we not deserve the same political freedoms as the English, Scottish and welsh!

Our people were terrorized more than the rest of the UK by the IRA, we have suffered loss fighting for Britain in past and present wars, but if it's to close to home, if the son's being lost are English then surely the cost for defending freedom is too high!!

and your argument is the laziest ive ever encountered and I wouldn't repeat it in Northern Ireland!

Not my arguement. I was merely saying what people would have voted and why.
My opinion is, the same as the Falklands, there are people in these provinces that are british, see themselves as British and want to be part of Britain. If we turned our back on them then we're as bad as the IRA or Argentines that have been disrupting the land for far too long.
The only problem with that is the other side that don't want us there as much as they don't want you there.
What's the best thing to do? You've got narrow minded people that think their view is right the same as the Arab/Israeli conflict or India/Pakistan!

Well that's the reason for self determination. Free from external pressure, why should another nation decide the national identity of a neighboring home nation? England has no more right to tell Scotland to become independent than Scotland has the right to tell the English to be French. I believe In the UK and believe we are all stronger together.

I have friends that are nationalists and catholics.

20 years ago we would have been shot by the paramilitaries for drinking in the others area.

We look to be returning to that era but hopefully it we will not,

but we can argue the politics of unionism/nationalism and we vote in free elections

and thats how it should stay, self determination and self governance is the only reason we have this peace.

The "troubles" were caused by religious discrimination so I personally understand why the IRA campaign of old existed! But that discrimination is no longer present.

The ballet box and debate should be the only things needed to gain a political achievement.

Apart from the Argentine's... they need wiped off the map whinny coonts....

The Arab/Israeli & Indian/Pakistan show is a clash of nations so alot more complicated than NI... religious hatred a reason of blame there too but wouldnt be aware of this history of the conflicts in great depth :P

I actually think Scotland is different. I'm really naive as I didn't realise how much they hate the English but since adulthood I have come across many Scots that hate English people.

I bet if it were left to the narrow minded part of Scotland to vote then they'd vote for independence but if the intelligent few were to vote then they'd understand the power of the union.

they gave him abuse But said i was one of "them" and they were my mates ?
it ended in Tears when I knocked the coonts out with a chair after they started Pushing Mick around

Probably Northern Irish chaps. GAA is a majority catholic/Irish sport and Northern Ireland is majority Protestant, but you did the right thing using the chair lol. I hate sectarianism and small mindedness.

As far as I'm concerned I coudn't give a fook what they do. They are just foreigners as far as I can see.
