The prospect of living with Bob, Sinead O'Connor, Bono or yourself will have people returning en masse to join IS.pacerpete wrote:After seeing St Bob setting a good example , I have decided to open my doors to two Syrians. I have requested two 16 year olds and am waiting for pictures

Fight back, the thousands/millions of 20 & 30 something males are happy enough to leave their families behind in a war zone while they go hitchhiking across europe for the promise of a better life, why not stand tough and sort the problem at home?bodger wrote:what would you do in their situation?

Being part of the EU is a bigger problem than welcoming refugees. Although it seems to me that the Syrian refugees media image is manufactured propaganda to make people hate Assad and Russia/China and the rest of the ''axis of evil'' as well as any kind of Arab or non white person in fact, to prepare the people to willingly let a bunch of bullshitters a la Blair involve the UK and other investor countries with a 24hr news channel in military money pit action of massive proportion to secure BP or Shell a bit of oil to extract, some obscure strategic nonsense or simply hurt in any way the rival empire.
Is hard to believe the crap we are served as democracies.

Easy to say from the comfort of your safe suburban home. You might feel differently if there was some blood-thirsty nutter waving an AK in your direction.DanThe wrote:Fight back, the thousands/millions of 20 & 30 something males are happy enough to leave their families behind in a war zone while they go hitchhiking across europe for the promise of a better life, why not stand tough and sort the problem at home?bodger wrote:what would you do in their situation?

Would you not protect your own home from insurgents? Or would you take flight and leave your family to fend for themselves like so many of this lot have?
You would be leading a very different life in Amsterdam if the allied forces had not stood up to the invading forces and chucked them out!
We know what Dan is trying to say....
The difference between your example (WW2 and Holland) is Holland was a State with an ideal of citizenship, a corrective identity if you will , Syria (like most of the middle east) while defined by borders is a cauldron of sectarian and tribal tensions. For many people there is no corrective identity, force, army etc to rally to! The ordinary people are wedged between two enemy/hostile forces (IS, Assad), not one, like your example. Who would you fight for? Just curious, Assad or IS? It would be like picking an STD!
Ps. If I was to get really uppity, I would point out how ineffective the resistance movements were during WW2 but hey! Feckin Brown people with no stomach for a good ole brawl!

I wonder, out of the two UK residents that posted similar comments, when the UK mainland was being bombed by the IRA and 3000 people were killed in NI, did they serve to beat off the bullies? or did they serve in the Falklands?
Not that the comparison is the same, I'm just curious to learn their experience of conflict.

This would be the ideal but who's going to arm and train these people? And your last paragraph contradicts your argument. The Dutch were incapable of defending their own country and had to rely on the allies to save their asses. Why don't the coalition forces do the same in Syria?willnz wrote:What Dan is saying is to get your own AK and fight back. I was set to follow family into the armed forces, but a serious accident when I was 17 left me with some long term medical issues that put pay to that
