Lets have a look at some of the stuff you have used over the years, you too Angus (you may win if there was a prize.lol )
Here is an old girl from the eighties , not the same one but the same model.
It was made in Berlin and went to Rolls Royce who ran her for so many hours in a temperature controlled room and then had a full re-fit and ran her again for much less hours then it was basically up for scrap, so where I worked bought her.
I am six foot lad ( ? ) and had to stand on her to work her.
Proper old school but really cool .

I went to an open day at William Medcalf a few months ago, if you like old machines then go when the have another one, some of the cars the owners bought in where unbelievable. I need to dig some photos out and post them here.

I think its the type of place that Mart would love to work in,

http://vintagebentley.com

Richard Scaldwell is also bonkers to be running this, but then again its the eccentrics that make life interesting and fun, check out Edwardian racing cars.......

Mike Vardy as well,

Airship engine top speed 127mph....... and 3000 pound - feet of torque

For mould making and degassing rubber, I use a 1930/40's Edwards Vacumn Pump. The electric motor burnt out about a year ago and after much looking I found a replacement from a 1940's lathe.

This isn't mine, but very similar..........

Just remembered and its a shame its been decommissioned, worked on a build project at the hospital in the early 80's was an interesting machine the first hospital based Cyclotron in the world, the walls where 3ft thick as was the door.........

Basically its a mini particle accelerator.

Used to make radioactive and non radioactive isotopes for cancer patients, I think they cost about £4M in this day and age.

Too true !!!
Have a word with some industrial museums as they may just take it .
The later ones have not changed much in design.

Not quite the same as some of the things pictured, but my dad picked up an old 1930's Austin 7 at the weekend, which I helped him get down their garden and into his workshop. These were both legit barn finds, and not just a car with some dust! Last used over 30 years ago by a farmer when they 'broke down'.

I've driven one of these around Silverstone before and... yeah... cars have come a long way!

Austins you say, this one I saw and got talking to the guy in Ealing its meant to be a rarity as its a convertible and in the summer its his daily and does a trip to France every year. Its a 1937.

Image

20 minutes later in the Waitrose car park I also found this, another 1937 car with a JAP engine. Guy says its a mission sometimes to keep running.

Image

If you like your Austins then when I took the Lotus to Brooke Kensington they had this in the workshop. A 1930's Austin I believe Little Satan is a known car.

There is a guy a few streets from me who has a funeral parlour and runs 3 pre 1910 Ford, I have a third photo of the hearse and it was well he tells me the first motorised hearse in the UK James is also the great great grandson of Shackleton the explorer.

These cars are in regular use. He also runs a Reliant Regal and its an original BBC prop form Only Fools and Horse.

Not going to quote all the pictures, but there's some nice cars there!

The person who found those two above if an old school friend of my dad, and restores/race preps 7s for a living. I think of the 5 with roofs that I can remember from his workshop (there were more I didn't look at), at least 4 had a sunroof/'convertible', so I'm not sure how rare it is. Must be lovely though, as it's a huge aperture!

That's going to be a challenge and a half, but the painted drums make it all ok! Good luck!

I think the guy said there are 7 left and its a full convertible, a friend was also working on this as it had popped a piston.

Tsk, tsk - surely that SU carb should have a brass damper cap on a car of that vintage. :nono:

Sure, and good luck to him. It appears to be a later HS2 type carb, similar to that fitted to later Morris Minors and other small BMC cars (earlier Minors had the brass SU carb caps).
