After a 350 mile round trip I finally have my 2.7 block, the only down side is that it's still got a dog of an E28 nailed to it.
I'm going to pull the engine later this week and start the rebuild, I'm quite looking forward to it.
I got the car off ebay, it looked half tidy in the picture and it probably was when the picture was taken, about 5 years ago.
The car was filthy when I turned up, covered in green stuff, no front number plate, black tape on the front wing and loads of rust etc etc. Oh, and it had a flat battery. I should have taken a spare with me but didn't think...
anyway, got it jump started and let it charge up a bit while I washed the car, there was no way I was driving it as it was. Got in and drove off to find a petrol station as the guage didn't move, pulled in stuck Ԛ£20 and got my mate to pay as I didn't trust the battery and the cars an automatic.
Drive off and within about 2 minutes I see lots of police cars, they pass without incedent... Thankfully.
The rest of the drive went by quite happily, the car was a total heap but has a superb engine. The brakes were a work of art, the sort of worked but you had to really lean on them to pull up normally.
When I got the car about 2 miles away from the workshop I started messing about and had quite a bi of fun in it, it was quicker than I thought it would be and plenty of torque, should be a ton of fun when built and fitted in the E30.
Just thought I'd share that with you.
Got my 2.7 block at last

Sounds good, what's wrong with a load of police cars though?

I will be keeping progress posted....
I hate getting pulled over by police, I hate it even more when I've just bought a car and they give you the third degree and generally wind me up. Oh yeah, the tax was out too and the car is a right puller..

Ah, the tax was out
You need to become friendly with your MOT man who'll be able to say you had an MOT pre-booked when you're picking cars up, then you can drive without tax/MOT
Am I right in thinking you're doing the 2.7 over Christmas or was that someone else?

I should have thought of the MOT thingy, nice one.
I'm starting the project next week, so it will be done by christmas. I've got quite a bit to do as the car is a 2.0 litre so the diff needs changing etc too. It'll be worth it though.

Are you going to keep it a 320i on the log book and insure it as such?
The engine looks the same as a 2.7 unless you take it apart doesn't it?

No mate, everything will be above board. I will inform the DVLA of the capacity increase, so the log book will still say BMW 320i, but the cylinder capacity will show as 2693cc, I will also sort the insurance out properly, there is no point lying and it's just wrong to do it.
I'm at the age now where insurance is cheap enough not to worry about. I recently insured a group 18 car for Ԛ£434 FC..

Cheers mate, I'm hoping it will be quite quick despite it being a budget job.
I can save a fair bit by porting it myself etc.
I still need to lower my car too, looks like its on stilts at the moment
