perhaps somebody can help me understand this,

How is it people can spend days talking about which bits they will be using to build a 200 bhp 2.7 and how many thousands of pounds it will cost and then plans to fit throttle bodies and custom mapped management etc for another couple of thousand pounds.

I have placed a link in the for sale section for TWO seriously rare 286 bhp m5 engines gearboxes etc starting at 799.00 and have only had one serious enquiry.

for those who dont know,
there are instructions for the swap on e30.de
there was / is a home grown 450 bhp turbo version on e30.de. also race versions of this engine have been known to produce 800+ bhp. i used to have a link to an american 1200 bhp drag racing car using this type of engine.

surely what im offering here offers a far more sensible package to modify a car and have enough spares left over to last a lifetime, for less than the price of a decent set of alloys.

so out of all our members here no interest ?

im not knocking anyone, but i am having difficulty understanding it,

comments please ladies and gentlemen.

it's easier to make plans than spend money. talk is cheaper than action. when money comes along it get's earmarked for non-essential purposes by gready missus - like holidays and house repairs and another pair of shoes. winter time in the uk is no time to embark on an engine conversion. and then spring comes and the car is being enjoyed.

i hear what you're saying. we all have great plans i'm sure but life gets in the way !

how many people run a 2.7 or plan a 2.7 and don't tell their insurers coz it looks the same as a 2.5 ? how would my insurers react if i fitted a 286brake m5 lump? is this a factor?

325i-sport, use a translator like google etc

placey, fair comment there, it's not really the best time for someone to fork out Ԛ£800, haven't even reached the payday after xmas yet.

Basically, this is a forum... there will always be a lot of talk and little action.

I've lost count of the number of times I've seen a "How do I build a 2.7 engine" type thread and it's been answered to death. If I cast my mind back, I can think of only a couple of people who have actually bothered doing it.

Jimbob and myself are building a 2.7 engine for his 318iS and we'll be writing a step by step guide to doing it from start to finish!

Regarding your engines, I wish this had come along at a different time, I was seriously interested but my cars just been totally ripped apart by the MOT man so it's repair time for me.

this is what i was thinking may be the case, please understand, im nowhere near loaded, i have two baby daughters, im halfway through a large house extension and have other car and bike interests. im only a self employed "scratcher abouter" (yes i do pay tax)
when i got a phone call from a motor trader friend saying do you want this px m5 i didnt have the money either. but its amazing what you can do if you want something badly enough. (i would do anything for love, but i DIDN,T do that :gay: )

insurance isnt as bad as i thought it may be, i got a quote for m5 powered e30 with all mods declared, of under Ԛ£1000 (when the std. 320 was costing me Ԛ£550) without too much trying. again its just down to getting on with it.

i just payed 200 to insure my 2.5 16v 190e for a year fully comp (collectors policy). a bit of effort and i saved myself 200-300.

if anyones serious, i may be up for a deal on the engines and my car (pictured below) and everything else bmw that i have against a NICE diesel shogun / pajero or similar or lateish MINT diesel astra van or similar
possibly late model enduro bike or superbike. try me. NO rubbish please, im not selling it and would not want it in return.

when i ask - its ideas mulling in my head and im planning where im goin with the car.. If you were selling the engines over summer then for that money they would be sitting in my garage already, but i have uni and other stuff on atm which take precedance (sp!) for the next few months.. then i can go mad on the car as a reward!

I think winter maybe just a bad time to sell stuff as its cold and wet and ppl dont want to do anything other than sit inside and stay warm! lol

Just bad timing mate. I would have had it if i hadnt bothered with my 2.7 conversion. I probably could have saved a few bobs too. At the end of the day, i'm sure there are 100 peeps here who would like it, but so soon after Crimbo, it's not a very good time. Mate i have Ԛ£1 in my pocket at the moment and the end of the month couldnt come quickly enough, so that i can break my routine of toast for breakfast, lunch and dinner that i've been having for the last week

This kind of thing for me is "pipe dreams",so I don't tend to bother talking about it,even though my mind is always dreaming up things like"I wish my car had an M3 motor in it"
The best mod my car gets is petrol!

Ok here goes, first post on the new site, I'm braced ready to have snide comments from people who have huge posting totals, deep breath now I know I can do it.

Hey great information on this conversion at http://www.335i.de

Stop don't bite my head off 'cause it's another website and a .de (there is a english clicky button to have all the information in a local language)

Hey Mods, you know towns have twins in Europe, why doesn't the E30ZONE extend the hand of friendship to our european cousins, and set up a twin website?

If this last paragraph is in the wrong thread please feel free to start a new post.

Bye.

It is like window shopping and let me say that there is nothing wrong with this.

You would love to buy, but financially you are unable to, unless you want to get into financial difficulties, which then can cause a lot of stress and that purchase then becomes something that you have started not to like or loose interest.

There are too many people in this country who are in debt up to their eyeballs, even loosing their houses, marriages breaking down over it. Even, at last resort committing suicide. This is something that we don't want to end up with, so it is best just to write about it, than actually go out and do.

It also allows other members here to add onto their ideas or get hints on what they can do.

Sorry if this post has gone a bit morbid. Wasn't meaning to. But hopefully you will understand the undertones of this message. I have been on long term sickness for over 3 years after an accident that has triggered off Fibromyalgia and other medical problem that prevent me from earning. The first time in the 15 years of full time employment  It is so easy to get into debt and it is so easy to be tempted into buying things or services for our beloved E30's.

Just musing about the 2.7, theres no way of anyone telling youve done the conversion is there? Well not unless they open her up and start putting a tap measure to the block and stuff right?

We agree with E30 Adam, lots of people talk about it as talk does not cost anything.I built a 2.7 for my hardtop.I have everything now to do the same to the cab,but now I have brought the B6,Jan's not too bothered about me putting the 2.7 in her cab as we never race it it's a car to be seen in and it only does about 500 to 1000 miles at most a year.So I may put a for sale post in the section for parts for sale in the near future.
