Im 17 and am interested in buying an e30 2.5i but am afraid is gonna cost a bomb to insure i was wondering what insurance group rating they classify and whether or not they are eligible for classic car insurance and whether it makes much difference

Sorry to have to say it but there's not really a chance at 17.
If your dad/mum knows you're sensible and can trust your driving they could insure an E30 with you as a named driver making use of their no claims bonus, and you should be able to insure a 316i (still good fun and I'd know) for under Ԛ£1000 depending on the NCB.
Remember the main driver will have to use the car more than you otherwise the insurance won't pay out in the event of a claim.
Re the classic insurance I'm pretty sure you have to be over 21, and I think only the "more classic" E30s, e.g. M3's, qualify at the moment.
HTH, and good luck

Having said that a 318i (non Lux) is in the same insurance group and is a bit quicker!
The 325i is in group 15. For comparison a friend of mine is paying Ԛ£3500 at 17 for a group 14 Pug 206 GTi, in his own name, TPFT!
All E30 insurance groups are here:

How much did he buy the Pug for, or is he one of the guys that thinks finance is always the better option?
Also being a named driver doesn't always work, my mate who is 19 can't even be a named driver on his dad's mk4 golf gt tdi.

I told you about this guy dude - he got the Pug for Ԛ£3,600 and then wrote that off by going backwards into a tree, and then somehow he found another Ԛ£3,800 for another one so is on his second GTi!
Rich cnut!
The GT TDi is group 15 though isn't it? Getting insured as a named driver for a group 12 car you'll find about 40% of insurers won't give you a quote, but the quotes you do get won't be too bad.
Tesco and Elephant wouldn't even quote with 4yrs no claims, so don't bother wasting your time with those
Confused is the best option

Oh yea I remember you telling me now
Why spend money on a sh*t car? Let me guess, already has the lexus lights fitted, with the green neons flashing away

He actually did have Lexus lights on the old one!
The neons for the new car are on order at the moment
When I ask why he didn't buy something in a similar insurance group but faster (e.g. davetouring's Civic is only in group 12 with 150bhp) he said he wants "the looks more than the speed"....which is why he's paying Ԛ£3.5k to insure a GTi rather than under Ԛ£1k on a 1.1?! Madness

Thats the problem with insurance. My sister in laws nephew has just passed his test at 17 and cant get a quote on any car for much less than 1k.
Its total madness
If you can wait a year or two before getting a 325i and you insure your own car from the start, the couple of years NCB you will get will make a difference.
I got my 325i sport when I was 21 with 3yrs NCB. Was well worth waiting for.

Having just passed your test at 17 insurance for Ԛ£400 should be easy as a named driver, though as James said, in your own name Ԛ£1000 is about right.
Waiting 1 or 2 years is the best idea, billgates/Chris on here is 18 with a year's NCB and is paying just under Ԛ£2k to insure his Sport....
If you really want a 325i the best option is to insure a group 1 car for a year in your own name for about Ԛ£1k, then buy one after a year and in theory the insurance should be under Ԛ£2k with the year's no claims
