Just realised the rust bubbling up on the corner of the drivers side rear valance on my 1988 316i 2 door has come through from the boot. Looks like water has got in through the boot and collected in the rear "well" and rusted through.

Is this a problem with E30s ? God knows if it can be fixed.

I'm having mine fixed at the moment, probably just the same fualt mine needs a new rear panel Ԛ£43 + vat and quite a bit of metal work welding in !!!.

I've got to the point of no return, my baby's got to look good, after the body work restoration and respray i think she will.

I bought a '87 318i last month and am after finding five patchs of rust around the boot and the whole rear passenger side wheel arch has to be replaced, Its not all bad i got her for 200 euros. Have you took out all the carpet in the boot to see if there is more rust, there usually is....

Thanks for the responses. Yeah, mine has rusted through from the boot floor. It will take a good bit of welding new metal in I guess. Rear panel for Ԛ£43, doesn't sound too bad. Thing is, if this is fixed she's tip-top. 134,000 miles and runs great (apart from fuel smell which is coming from leaking fuel pipes, also common acccording to the forum).
