Broken indicators please help

Hi i put a post up last night and now cant find it so ill do it again. My indicators in my m3 stopped working I changed the fuse and now the hazards work but they wont work off the stalk? i checked the black relay under the steering column it looks ok could it be the stalk itself? With the relay i pulled it off and the hazards wouldnt work put it back and they did but still not off the stalk. What should I do?
