I must be lucky with mine, I don't do anything to it except check the oil and water evey now and then, and apart from the odd niggly problem that Brianmoooore always has the answer for it has gone straight through the last four MOT's. Good luck to you guys with yours looming.
And on the eighth day God created........The E30!

Notification of refusal too issue and MOT certificate

NS Front tyre beyond legal limit

OS Front tyre beyond legal limit

NS Rear tyre beyond legal limit

OS rear tyre beyond legal limit

Fuel Tank Leaking

Passenger seat insecure

major leak of exhaust gases

OS rear fog light inop

all in all not too bad i dont think... no rust anyway, well not on the underside. the rest i spose can be fixed!

few hundred quid on tyres and exhaust and a little bit of time with a spanner and it will be fine anyway!

Gibson, not being funny mate but why the hell did you put it trough the MOT in that condition.
Passenger seat, exhaust and fog light i can understand but surely you knew about tyres and fuel tank?
Unless you are going to put it through again in whatever allotted time the MOT allocates it just seems a waste of the MOT fee. Not to mention the risk of being pulled on the way to the garage for 4 illegal tyres.
Maybe wrong but can,t you get 3points on your licence per tyre?

oh sorry i didnt explain. the garage is 50 metres from my house and the tyres were only on the inside (bad camber) so it was touch and go if they were even illegal.
the exhaust i knew about and suspected the petrol tank (its not a big leak)
but i didnt wanna spend money on tyres and tank and exhaust if it was going too fail on any rust! so i put it in for a test too make sure it was worth spending the cash on.

oh and the seat was just one of the bolts that had unwound itself slightly i didnt realise because it was down the back of the seat were i couldnt see. (have tightened it up now)

i work at the garage so i can get the tyres etc done cheap and within the Ten day limit for a free Retest :D

See what you,re saying mate and can understand your reasoning. Sure if you had asked, 4 local Zoners would
have lent you a wheel with a good tyre each winkeye . Good luck with re-test

Yea im quite chuffed actually, no rust related failures and the emissions etc are all ok (managed to check them by duct taping up the exhaust)

so yea few wear items like tyres exhaust and bulbs later it will pass.

The wear must be reasonably bad!

Seen as it's only the centre 75% that matters...

thats not true at all, for a tyre to fail the tread must be below 1.6mm in three different areas of the tyre

exactly. it was pretty close too being legal but i didnt have a tread gauge. anyone who can gauge 1.6mm accurately by eye is a machine.

it all depends on how bad the overall tread of the tyre is and also depends on the mood the tester is in as well

Technically he probably could have advised it, but because it was all four he opted on the safe side and failed it.

i only know this because i know the tester
