After the discussion about davetouring's sport i decided to face the inevitable and take off the m-tec kit to see the condition of mine underneath.Did this today. Here goes,
The bottoms of the wings (under m-tec pods)both sides have bad corrosion, need replacing.
The doors are fine,
The lower part of the rear quarters(under m-tec pods) are fine.
The sill(outer) on passenger side is ok,
The sill(outer) on driver side needs replacing.
The rear arches are fine(want to keep them that way).
The rear corner(under battery tray) needs work, other side fine.
The jacking points are all ok apart from nearside front, needs work.
Inner wheel arches are fine,
The bootlid has minor surface corrosion on the leading edge.
Underside of car is good and seems well rustprofed.
Roof and bulkhead are fine.
So what do you think?
is this excessive corrosion?
should i sell her on?,(bearing in mind i dont really want to try and con someone, the guy i bought it from had no such problem, the cannuck).
Or will i restore her?
How much will it set me back for a proper job?
Help appreciated guys,thanks.
What to do?

Thanks,That's what im thinking jhonno. The thing is,When your buying a sport II,unless you insist in pulling off the kit of the sellers car there and then (which i as a seller would'nt in fairness allow in case they damaged it),you aint gonna know what you have until you've bought it and got it home.I wonder how many m-tec II sports have never had the kit off.Im also presuming that it would be hard to find a tec II sport now that does,nt have some level of corrosion under there.Jhonno wrote:restore - doesnt sound that bad

exactly! hence yours isnt that bad - its just starting to go in the normal places, catch it now before it gets worse. If you can weld - hire a welder and DIY then get your mate to spraytechnoviolet wrote:Thanks,That's what im thinking jhonno. The thing is,When your buying a sport II,unless you insist in pulling off the kit of the sellers car there and then (which i as a seller would'nt in fairness allow in case they damaged it),you aint gonna know what you have until you've bought it and got it home.I wonder how many m-tec II sports have never had the kit off.Im also presuming that it would be hard to find a tec II sport now that does,nt have some level of corrosion under there.Jhonno wrote:restore - doesnt sound that bad
what i would say is BMW wings etc arent made by BMW - they come from an outside company and the fit isnt that great - saves your money n get em from GSF or similar
thats the thing with bodywork - if you can DIY it makes much further gone projects restorable as your cost is panels/metal and welding wire as opposed labour etc
