Hi guys, Im trying to restore a 89 325i motorsport cabby, the power hood seems to have given up and from what the mecanic is saying to me it could be an expensive repair.
So, is it possible to convert the power hood to a proper manual hood and if so what would be involved ?

If you still have the motor it should not cost more that £250 to repair an electric roof...on a motorsport its worth it

my local specialist has recommended a manual hood too as the electric one gave up the ghost he reckoned at least £400

think i may look into that when it comes cabby rebuild time then..someone mentioned faulty micro switches but i noticed that the rod has been broken at some point and welded back together (badly)

Cheers guys
Im not to sure which part is giving trouble yet, Its hopefully going back to my mechanic next week so if the cost wasn't huge I would love to get it repaired as I'm trying to put the car back to original form.

But can't you just disconnect the passenger side rod so that onlt the boot lid opens and then you lower the top manually?

yes you can, but as you say you need to open the roof cover electrically
