Hi all,
My name is Ross and im currently on the lookout for an E30 318 as a runaround car. Ive got an E36 320 coupe at the mo and its my pride an joy, but its getting dented etc when Im out and about. You may think im after an E30 cos i want to trash it but it aint true, so no flaming pls! lol!
Im just after a bog standard run of the mill car, not bothered about dents n scratches as the car is gonna get used on the track also. But im unsure of what to look for as I dont want to just buy an utter heap and the bum falls out of it on the first corner!
If there is already a buyers guide on here, I apologise in advance and could someoen direct me to it!
Cheers,
Ross

Welcome to the zone!
I'm sure you'll change your mind soon enough and want to keep the E30 shiney and undented......!
Well there are loads of 318i about, bascially have three different engines. m10, m40 and in the IS m42.
IMOP the older m10 engine is the best/easiest cheapest to run engine. Parts cost next to nothing eg i bought a new cylinder head for Ԛ£30... It is also very tunable with 200bhp+ possible from N/A. However the older cars (pre87) are prone to rust a little more as they have less protection. But i think they look better with their chrome bumpers.
M40 engines are more fuel efficient and a little more powerful in standard spec. However finding a good one is very difficult. Many suffer from valve tick (their hydralic so expensive to fix) and often been negleted. Part are more expensive accros the board, just check out eurocarparts.co.uk
Or if you want something that handles, save up some money and buy an IS, its got m-tech suspension/brakes and the m42 engine with over 140bhp as standard.
A trake car did I hear?

cool, thanks for the reply.
What parts am I meant to look out for for rust? Iv been told about the struts rusting.
Aw I cant stop loving my e36 its my first car! lol!
I had the pleasure of being whipped round the nurburgring in a stripped out e30 316, and i have to say the only thing that was more fun was the e30 M3! so its a must that I have one of these. the power to weight ratio when there is nothing in it is unreal!
