Flood damage is usually Cat A or B. I have seen some flood damaged cars make a Cat C but not very often.

It can depend on what kind of water, and how deep the car has been submerged.

Reason behind it is because of long term damage due to the water ingress, electrics etc.

I'd been there a couple of times years ago when I lived out that way, could never get anyone on the phone & when you turned up it was like you were invisible :? The stuff for sale was overpriced as well.

you should see what gets classed as Cat B - absolutely criminal. Universal Salvage have a 1992 318i Design Convertible with a damaged door and they've Cat B'd it - bastards.
Having said that, a lot of Cat B stuff goes over to Southern Ireland where it can be road registered again. The last time I was at an auction they'd bought an E30 M3 that had been completely submerged - plugs out, a bit of WD40 and it spluttered into life! :D
It's going to be used as a track car - better than being stripped and the shell cut up.

There's a massive Hales storage (insurance salvage agent) place near me, and the amount of Irish Polish and Latvian transporters loaded with written off cars leaving there every day is shocking!

Isnt that illegal now we are all in the EU with supposedly shared standards on vehicle classification? Not doubting it goes on, but i agree, its shocking.

I've seen cars in the breakers auctions I attend that are basically flat. The eastern europeans bid on it and its off to the EU for some spit and polish.

The Polacks and Latvians have forced up prices of damaged cars to a stupid degree - mainly the 10 year old stuff and older. They also visit every breakers yard in the UK and buy complete front ends, i.e E34, W124 Merc bumpers, bonnets, wings, lights etc whiclst the Africans cut up cars and shove everything into containers. I've noticed that damaged cars fetch almost auction prices for STRAIGHT stuff!

As for EU classification - there's the EU and there's the Polish EU. You just try implementing anything like an EU law there - forget it. :x
