Yesterday I was out delivering and in a bit of a hurry. Going down the sliproad into the motorway, I inadvertantly bounced off the rev-limiter (I rarely go above 5.5k).
Since then, the car's running away with me! It hardly needs any throttle at all and is going like it never has before.
What's worrying me is that 30-odd years ago, when I was building rally cars, it was usually the case that an engine would give its best performance just before it blew-up.
I'm not clued-up on engine management systems, give me a proper distributor with points in and a carburettor or two to adjust any day!
What has caused this sudden "power surge"?
Cheers
Stuart.
This is why I no longer drive an E30......

I know the old saying 'It goes fastest just before it blows!'

This does seem to happen sometimes, you may have 'cleared it out'. I think the only reason my old 320i was so quick was because it had a good workout when I drove it! :D

I did exactly the same thing yesterday! Now that coincidence is scary! I was racing a bike (stupidly I know) off a set of lights, hit the limit in 2nd and for a second there was nothing there. Dropped the speed and revs dramatically and turned the stereo off expecting to hear clunking and bangingfrom the engine bay but nothing. It seems fine. Won't be doing that again in a hurry. 8O

couldnt be that the ecu chip has finally figured out the settings?

I know ant suggests taking it to the limiter in 3rd to 'break in' the 'zone chip....

I'm inbetween the Texaco garage at the end of the high street and the runwell hospital (no comments thank you please).

Think I've only been thru Rayleigh a couple of times since I had her although I'm in Hullbridge quite a bit visiting the rents.

:D
