Looks like I'll have to get the head off sooner than I had planned. The car is idling a little rougher now and I checked the oil again (which I do every week anyway). This time Ive got the dredded mayo on the oil cap and not just a few bits on the dipstick like before.

Now its time to source a new head. Im still praying though its just the gasket. Hopefully I'll be able to do the whole job myself with a little help from a mate and save a few hundred on labour.

yea in the same boat mate, had a similar problem but i got the may in the coolant tank. pulled off the head and the head was cracked. apparantly if the water is mixing into the oil its the gasket that is gone , but if it is vise- versa its the head thats f****d. its not too hard pulling it off your self, you jus got to hav the balls to take out bolts that you are not familiar with. goodluck with it anyway

If what you say about the water and oil etc is true then that will make me very happy as I dont want to have to fork out for a new head as Ive other plans! :D
