Was down at the old GSF picking up some engine mounts for the 320, as you do...

Stopped at the traffic lights, when what roles up beside me but a 04 plate porsche 911 convertible.

both sitting at the traffic lights, at idle, waiting for green

bam-both booted it at the same time- awesome sound :D

he got about 2 car lengths on me before we braked for the net set of lights

fun fun fun

78 dude can say how cool it was :D

I've been in a similar age 911 (996) tonight and i can honestly say the 911 would eat a 325 alive!

i dont rise to traffic light races, although i do sometimes have this urge to boot it, but then i remember shes a b20 so why bother? now the 325(on b20 running gear) on the other hand will be tested, i want a traffic light race with a e dirty 6 325 or 328i to see how she gets on. anything that is french will be demolished(fiat lol winkeye )

an e36 328 will own you.

So will a lot of fiats, punto turbo's and coupe's for instance... as will a pug 106 gti and a saxo vts(r?) on a good day.

325's arent fast, they're just faster than a 320.

Yes... welcome to the wonderful world of power to weight ratio's. Which, in a traffic light gp/drag race, are all that matters. Well, that and gearing, which is why my car wont be beaten by the aforementioned frnech/italian sh*te. winkeye

so let me get this right..... your telling me that the engine that was touched by the hand of god(m20b25 pre facelift) coupled to the legendary b20 box and diff(facelift), running on the super dooper facelift monotronic, will be beaten by some god forsaken chav saxo??? lets just say if that day ever comes there will be some seriouse work being done to the 2.5. (edit)actually i will get ant to turbo the @ucker. bavaria will rule!

a 106 gti yes, my mates, on many occasions. From standstill, from 80, from 40 in 5th, and many other variations on the same theme.

Seeing as they are essentially the same car/engine (I stand to be corrected if I've got the s and r confused with the saxo) I'd reckon on taking the saxo too.

Yes I can do it in mine... its close ish... I'd guess by the time I hit 60 I'm about a car and a half in front and still pulling.

Bear in mind we're talking about traffic light gp's here, not many of them get to more than 60. I think a standard 106gti up against a standard 325, the 106 would have it. It would be close though.

My personal thoughts are that E30's are a wierd car for outright performance. Using any of the standard mills and jumbling parts about will give you something with luke warm performance. See the light and stick something under the bonnet with some real guts (non BMW) and you've got no traction. Seems you just can't win lads

I was there and I saw it with my own eyes.
The E30 325i Touring keept up the 911 on a good way.
Remember that a 911 cab isnt so very fast from 0-60mph, its from 50-130mph the thing gets very fast...
Because of all the new safety stuff they need to keep ombard these days, a 911 cab would I think is somewhere between 1500-1650 kg....

I've just spent a happy day driving my dad's new shape 911 cabby and it would demolish any remotely standard 325. I know - i own one,

Interesting thread and as much as i love e30s i would trade mine for any solid 911 in the blink of an eye. An undeniable classic. I wouldn't care about racing. :)
