Why can't I find anywhere to drift ? ! ?
Ok, in the wet roundabouts are great and there's some awesome ones just off the a3. Unfortunately my drifting skills are too err... erratic shall we say for dry road drifting. All those curbs and things.
What I *really* want to a nice car park, industrial estate or something where I can bounce second gear off the limit and scream tyres all night long, without any of the following:
innocent thrid parties
neighbours (noise hating or just stuck-up)
police (unless things get silly, of course)
farmers with their shotguns
security guard
large animals (deer, horses etc, like braknell, richmond park, new forest etc)
I'm not a chav, I don't want to upset people. I don't want to endanger anything except me, my car and maybe some willing friends.
Somebody please! You must know something, or know somewhere to go. PLEASE!!!!!
I don't mind travelling a bit for this. and I'm happy to be out at silly o'clock in the morning to avoid things like security guards.
I know people do track days specifically for this kind of thing but they're so few and far betwen (and usually expensive!) that they're no good for day to day, on a whim practice.
I'm sure all of the above echos many other peoples views. Let's see if we can do something about it. Afterall, we only want a bit of deserted concrete! This has come about as a friend and I went out last night for FOUR AND A HALF HOURS looking for one little place to have some harmless fun.
What did we find? I'll tell you. We found numerous carpark... all with cctv, security guards, or locking barriers. ARRGGHH FUCK OFF! Why is it in this country we're all so scared of being sued. Any owners of businesses with car parks please open them up!
Let's take the argument of a race track. They have to have large insurance policies to let people on them, net result they have to charge lots of money to allow people on them. Even if you could convince the owner to open the track itself, or even the large car park that sits unused next to it, up for a few evenings a week, he wouldn't. He's too scared of being sued. ARRGGHH. I'm not going to sue you if I break my legs or trash my car because you let me use your facilities. I'd thank you fer letting me have the chance in the first place. I'd be pissed off sure, but ffs, anybody in their right mind knows that it's not Mr friendly carpark owners fault.
The mentality of this country really pisses me off at times. I know we enjoy many benefits of this kind of society but we have to have a balance.
There're over three thousand people subscribed to this forum. If that's not enough to find a place to safely enjoy our hobby of choice then we may as well all sell up the rwd, buy a nice fwd, 80%airbag,10%side-impact bar,9%engine, 1% fun, shit-mobile. All go to work in bio-hazard suits to protect against the latest super-virus/pandemic* and build nuclear shelters in the garden. fucking nanny state.
Again, I beg you all. Let's find somewhere safe to have a bit of harmless fun.
And,sorry about the rant.
* don't even get me started!

I agree, however I think the only way forward is to take advantage of the current nanny state/fear of pandemic to make lots of money.
Then we can drift on public roads and just pay the fines when we get them. And afford to go on track days.

Oh i know exactly what you mean, i deem my skills too "erractic" for the public roads. They can never stop u driving like a psychopath on empty B-roads in the middle of the night tho, and i kinda like a spot of that

wil, we do have some nice back roads to be fair but they're not really suitable for actual *drift* practice, at leeat not yet
widge. that's one way around it but it doesn't:
a. solve the problrm in the short term
b. solve the problem for anyone other than yourself.
in reference to point b. This is exactly the kind of self interested mentality that's got us in this mess in the first place. And I don't mean that as a personal insult, it's just a comment on society. I can't really blame people for looking out for themselves, it's just a shame that being selfish is the only way to "succeed" in this world.

Everythings "liability" or "cover arse", even at work im told to do that to myself and my immediate collegues so someone else gets the blame if something falls through
Hence the compensation culture, nanny state and other stupid things.
