Drove to lincoln and surrounding areas today from Chippenham.
Brimmed the tank before I left which was so low the light had been on for about 20 miles or so.
I have just returned when my fuel light flickered once, briefly,it's now gone back out.
Total mileage covered....................417.3!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Take into account the mileage left which will be about 20 miles before the petrols back to the same level as when I went and the total mileage for Ԛ£49.85 worth of petrol is 437.3.
Thats an average MPG of about 35.
Is this a record on the Zone for a 325i??
PS The car had four passengers, two tool boxes,an extra spare tyre,a 5ltr can of oil,a 5ltr can of anti freeze and a bottle of brake fluid..............(I like to be prepared!!!!)

You gotta enjoy it!!!
I was driving by the Econ gauge, speed and RPM didn't come into it,just goes to show, they must be fairly accurate,I tried to keep it above 30 as much as I could, annd it seems to have worked.

Long drives are actually a lot more interesting if you try & go for economy - I value my licence too highly to go for high speed! Hence why I could always get over 30 from the 320i on a run. It'll be interesting to see what this one makes...

Yer right,it does make interesting (plus being a tight git,as suggested by Chaos),but also if the kids and missus in the car than I don't tend to drive like an arse.
It was quite a challenge to see how many miles I could get,but when the needle was below the dreaded WHITE line, the one after red and reserve (just outside Oxford, still about 60 miles to go),I decided to stop and fill a can just in case!

In my old SE i used to have the computer on the range setting permantly as I was always running on fumes.
One night driving home from the pub,the weather was utterly foul, pouring down with rain when I saw a young couple hitching, being I've been there doing the same thing in the past I picked them up.
I asked where they were going and they were going to a village about 5miles off my route.
Being of a kind nature I said I'll drop you off and take the scenic route home.
Dropped them off,(they were mightly pleased),and noticed the range setting had dropped so low it had just dashes, meaning, your f*cked if theres no petrol station within the next mile or two, which I knew there wasn't.
I had got about a mile down the road and 5 miles from home when...........cough............cough..........splutter.......stop! I ran out of petrol!!!!!!!!!!
I then had to walk home in the foul weather I had just rescued the couple from!!!
I now worry about running out a lot more!

Huh... can't believe you went to Lincoln and didn't bother telling me. Fine. Be like that. I'm only 15 minutes down the road... another few miles wouldn't have hurt you... but oh no... not you, nooooooo... straight to Lincoln, do your stuff, then off again. Phhhhaaaaaa!
400 miles on a tank is amazing. That's 100 more than I EVER do...

I've got to do Portsmouth-York-Portsmouth this weekend and you might just have tempted me into an economy run! Don't know whether I'll have the patience tho. Did manage 355 miles on a tank once even before the reserve came on. Couldn't risk running too low tho as I was on a motorway and getting towed off doesn't work out very economical!

Jesus that's good!!!! yes, pun intended.. sorry
I just got 360 on a tank of optimax and that was taking it pretty easy. I average 300 on a tank. I think there may be something wrong with the car as it's only a 1.8i

Very quick update before i respond to some of your comments.......
Just got home after being out for the day and the miles have reached 445.0 exactly without putting any in
Gotta go out again now,but I'm going to pour my can of petrol in,thats enough risk taking for now and I don't fancy buggering up my fuel pump which I have in the past by running out!
Woo Hoo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Stu.....No fortunatly,it never seems too! However,i'm a firm believer in preperation, thats why it takes me so long to get things done!
Main reason for carrying every tool under the sun when going on a trip is,if something happens,I'll do my damnedest to fix it rather than call for emergency services, which I refuse to spend money on!
I've only ever been stranded (not in the Tourer) when i've not had tools to fix the fault, this way I cover all aspects except major breakdown such as blown up motor
Also,i feel it tempts fate, meaning,if i waste my energy loading up all the tools and spare bits, waste fuel by carryi ng lots of extra weight, chances are I won't breakdown,if I were to think sod it and not take anything,i WILL breakdown!
Schmick......Good to hear from you mate, any news on the UK move?
Oh,and I don't usually get such good MPG,usually on day to day basis, but it's good to know it has got good economy hidden in there somewhere!
Turbo Brown......I think its true to say my engine is now worn in!!
Andy-Magic........Dude,I fooking wet myself with your "bones removed from foot" comment!!!
Geeman,Geeman,Geeman......So sorry to not have called you up,had I been on my own and not on some kind time schedule I would have,of course! You need Jesus in your life!!
BTW mate,do you ever call the Radio 2 Traffic Hotline?? I've heard someone called Geeman call up a few times to report traffic problems.
Next time i'm in Lincoln,I will call you up,providing you don't mind my whole tribe coming in for a cup of coffee or two and a couple of glasses of squash for the kids!
Monsport........I didn't need patience,my wallet informed me under the strictest terms frugal driveing was of the esscence
I don't mind driving slowly when the families in the car TBH,but when I'm on my own driving like this it really is a drag!
Good point about running out on the mototrway, but I was prepared with a can of fuel, just in case!
Hoshy.....You need lessons from the master of frugal driving,if your evar in Chippenham,i'll show you how,or you could use the previously mentioned tip and remove all the bones from your right foot!
Jon......Yup,I felt my good deed was a good deed to far,if i see anyone now and i'm low on fuel, sod it,they can walk!!
320i Touring.....Nope,i don't have along range tank,i put in exactly 57.36 litres, and i've added the reciept as proof! You've seen the clean car evidense and i reckon you and eveyone else who mentioned it must be right about the lack of dirt being a major contributory factor!

Martinnaston........,I can remember as far back as being able to fill a 5 litre jerry can for Ԛ£2.50,cost just over a fiver now
And when my FS1E was on the road,it used to cost me Ԛ£3.00 including adding oil to the petrol per week to run! Wish The Tourer was THAT good!
