While i was getting my door cards off at the scrape yard this morning, this bird rolls up in alittle feista and the owner of the yards starts filling her car from a 5 galllon drum.So i thought she must be useing red in her car.
Well it turns out that he is selling gas thats collected from all the scrape cars that he gets in.Well Ԛ£12 for 5 gallon maybe 6 so i paid up and got me a drum.It looks clean enough but i did strain it before putting it into the IS hopefully it should be okay. :D

Why i dont get it ,its drained from cars that have been involved in some kind of accident what are they supposed to do with the petrol that remains in all the cars.I dont want to be getting into any trouble if its that serious i was more worried about what i was putting in my car.

Good point, I would imagine the seller isn't paying tax on it, and I don't reckon he wouldn't be happy with it being publicised.

I would take advantage of the offer, but keep quiet about it!

Up to you though!

I imagine there's a law preventing people doing this.......

knew a guy once that used to run his jag xj40 4.0 on petrol from the Auctions where I worked....

it had full service history etc and was really well looked after-took him a month to kill it!

petrol had a mix of u/l, su/l 4 star in it-all different brands, and some of it came from cars that were standing for years!

cost him Ԛ£2k to get the head rebuilt (24 valves  )

IMHO=petrol that isnt newly refined is not a good plan esp for an engine like the m42.

you pays your money and takes your choice

hmmm, was thinkin about what u guys have wrote? is it lillegal or not? well the ppl who originally owned theses cars b4 they became scrap obviously had to put fuel into them right? now if they did that then they must have paid for the fuel that they bought at there local petrol pump too, right? so if they've done that, then they've paid there 83p/litre or so, (of which about 80% is fuel tax which is extortionate, highest fuel tax in europe i think) so technically the fuel & the tax on it had already been paid for, right?
Now when a scrappy buys a written-off or damaged car from the insurace companys they have the right to sell any part of that car they like, right? including the fuel in the fuel tank?coz technically the tax has areadly been paid on it, its just second hand fuel now, right? i mean when u sell somthing second hand like a set of alloy wheels for e.g, u dont pay vat again on it do u?
so i say f..k da goverment and get urself some cheap ass fuel boyyyyyyyy.
dont u think we pay enuff already?

I mean:-
income tax.
road tax.(which only covers motorway maintenance and not inner city roads)
tv licence.(daftest tax yet, dont see guys with 3 tvs screens fitted to the headrests of there beemers having to pay this)
your mortgage.
council tax.
factoring fees(shit mines is due again)
mot(shit due again)
car insurance(shit due again)
home insurance(due too)
all ur utility bills
statutory notice(only if u live in listed buildings mind u)
shitttttttt im broke again........

Damn right we pay too much already, but I was more concerned about the possibily illegallity of it and public posting.

What annoys me....

You earn your wage, pay tax on it.

You buy a car, and get taxed again.

You have to buy road fund licence, more tax.

You have to pay tax on the petrol for your car.

and so on.

:x

BP and Esso are the best ones m8

Texaco CAN be ok, depends on the station, a lot of them are crappy poorly run franchises tho and have major contamination in their tanks.

i posted summit bout opticrap the other day, give me 2 mins and i will find it.

quote one
ive always used SUL in my 325i's tho i spose normal 95 unleaded is ok.

opticrap is overrated.
its not a genuine SUL, if u check its BSnumber its the same as normal unleaded, this is because its only normal petrol with some additives and it degrades. A petrol has to be stable and retain its RON for 2 yrs to get its BSnumber so by using the same rating as 95 (eg what its based on)as it degrades it wont be under its minimum level.
Super unleaded however is refined at 97 and is stable for at least 2 yrs.

quote 2
Esso Supreme and BT Ultimate (both just fancy names for SUL) are the best imo. Optimax can be ok if its freshinto the tank at the petrol station but unless its a busy station id say avoid it if u can.

Texaco SUL can be ok, but round where i am that seems to depend which garage u go to (contaminated tanks maybe???)

FCUK the goverment they get enough money out of me with tax and rip me off with the price of petrol, its the health of the car that would worry me like somebody said you dont know whats in it and how long its been there. It sure felt good getting over half a tank of petrol for Ԛ£12 but i might just give it a miss in future as you never know.

If leaving the petrol standing for a long time lowers the octane number and messes up the engine, you could spend a bit of the money you saved on some octane booster just to be on the safe side?

Just a thought....

do u have faith in octane booster ?

i find it a little hard to believe that something sold in little plastic bottles in halfrauds can affect the strength of ur petrol in any noticeable fashion.

Have you ever tried it?

Put a bottle in with your next tank of petrol and you'll see why I suggested it

Apart from the issue of duty/tax it's probably illegal to sell it because of the way it's being dispensed. Which ever way you look at it this is a retail sale which therefore must comply with the regs. governing petrol stations.

I wouldn't touch it, imagine how many times the can has been used, how many different types of fuel have been in it. Ever try to completely empty one of them drums - always a bit left in - could have been diesel last time.
My car smokes enough as it is, but if you've spent a lot of money on your E30, why risk it to save a few Ԛ£Ã”šÃ‚£Ãƒ”šÃ‚£Ãƒ”šÃ‚£Ãƒ”šÃ‚£!

Cant pay vat on something twice.

If the fuel is being sold as "waist" then fair enough.

At the end of the day, if the scrappy is declaring it in his tax return/accounts then who cares.

Do you honestly think petrol tankers get washed out ?? Christ everything has been in one of the compartments on a tanker at one stage. (father hauls fuel for BP)

Car has a fuel filter so cant see much damage getting done.

yes i tried it several times in my old pulsars.
made no difference whatsoever.

the only ones i think work are tolouene (sp) and cool blue race fuel (which is a proepr race fuel but can be used as octane booster at various ratios)
