Ok, so I collected my 325 from the bodyshop yesterday evening and decided to pop to Halfords to get one of those steering wheel locks - an extra deterrant against would be theives (since my car is looking so nice an all 8) )

So I get home and try the lock out, it locks fine, but unlocking it's quite stiff. I'm trying to turn the key then SNAP, yep it broke off in the lock

Great, so much for me going to meet the lads at the Brighton meet

So I manage to get the steering wheel off, bring it indoors and spend a good hour trying to get the broken bit of key out of the lock so that I can unlock it with the spare - no joy.

I thought about dragging out the angle grinder, but decided that I'd like to keep the ten fingers that I have

Last resort, get the good old AA boys out. Wait another hour, AA guy shows up and after yet another hour he can't get the broken key out either

He calls another AA chap and they spend another hour trying to hack, chop, saw and break it off (ouch my nice Mtech 2 steering wheel). Apparantly it's the toughest one they've ever come across 8O
Normally they're manufactered with some way for AA types to remove them in situations like this - but the model I chose wasn't one of them - typical

By now it's 11.00pm, the first AA guy is local and has a mate nearby who happens to have some kind of flame cutter. So off he goes, come back about half an hour later with the steering lock in one hand and my wheel in the other

Thankfully my wheel only suffered a couple of slight scuffs at the back. I'm just relieved the damn thing is off.

Well that's the end of my rant, a word of warning don't buy one off these! It's a Stoplock Professional and costs Ԛ£40.00.

It's going back to Halfords tonight is less than perfect condition - and I want my money back

PS Sorry to everyone at the Brighton meet, I'll be there next time 8)

I have one of those... been O.k in terms of locking for about 2 years now.....but it has ripped my stearing wheel up. Metal and leather don't go well together!

Should have taken the whole stearing wheel to halfords made them get it off

I thought about it, but it would have been a long walk carrying a steering wheel and lock 8O

I can't wait to see their faces at Halfords when they see it all in bits!!!

The reason i never bought one of those is as you descrbed you just take the wheel off to make it redundant, or the alternative is to just cut the steering wheel and slide it off. Crap design. Crap shop.
